His famous father launched his career by posing with his shirt off.

And it appears that Patrick Schwarzenegger, the 17-year-old son of Maria Shriver and Arnold Schwarzenegger, might be following in his fathers footsteps.

The young man displayed his toned model like physique as he enjoyed a fun day at the beach in Malibu, California, yesterday.

Wearing colourful red and blue check shorts, Patrick showed off his six-pack and toned arms as he took a cooling dip in the ocean.  The 17-year old son of the disgraced former California Governor is the star of a huge billboard in a new campaign for denim brand Hudson Jeans which looms Sunset Boulevard in Hollywood.

Patrick appears shirtless in the advert, which showcases his slender yoga-honed physique. He may be no beefcake like his former weight-training fanatic father but he's definitely more easy on the eye.

Patrick, who turns 18 next month, has been trying to embark on a career in modelling and fashion. He follows in the footsteps of another child born to famous parents, Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall's daughter, Georgia May Jagger, who also models for the brand.

A source told The New York Post: 'Young Hollywood is going to go crazy for this kid.'

Meanwhile, Patrick enjoyed some fun in the sun, laughing and joking around with his older sisters, Katherine, 22, and Cristina, 19 as they sat on swings hung from the trees.

At one point Cristina jumped on his back and he ran off towards the water with his sister laughing and clinging on to him for dear life.

His younger brother Christopher, 13, who is still recovering following a surfing accident last month, serenaded his mother Maria, 55 and sisters with a song played on his guitar.

The family appears to be adjusting well to life without their father around all the time.

Maria filed for divorce from the body-building actor turned politician after 25 years of marriage after he admitted to fathering a child, Joseph, 13, with the family’s long term housekeeper Mildred Baena.
