She's dressed up as an embryo, a man and Marge from The Simpsons.

But for her latest project, Lady Gaga is transformed into an oil-slicked mermaid.

The 25-year-old singer's bare body is seen drenched in thick black oil for the striking cover of art publication Visionaire 61.

A special 'Larger Than Life' edition of the magazine is said to be the largest ever published, making it into the Guinness Book Of Records.

For the shoot, thick sludge is cleverly smeared across Gaga's bare chest to her waist.

The Bad Romance star also slips into a dramatic black scaly mermaid skirt to complete the look.

With multicolored streaks in her thick long blonde hair, she wears minimal make-up on her complexion not to distract from the dramatic look.

The artistic photographs were shot by famed photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, and are accompanied by a quote from the singer saying: 'There is no oil too thick as to destroy the imagination.'

The publication is limited edition and comes in two whopping sizes.

But it comes at a hefty price.

A Standard Edition of the magazine, measuring 36 inches x 49.48 inches costs $375, with only 2,500 numbered copies available.

And a Deluxe Edition, measuring 57.48 inches x 79 inches costs a pricy $1,500, with a minimal 250 numbered copies available.

The publication is designed to 'give iconic artists and image-makers the forum to take their visions to a massive scale.'

Other contributors include fellow photographers Steven Klein, Mario Sorrenti and Bruce Weber, British artist and Nowhere Boy Director Sam Taylor-Wood, and famed American Director Ridley Scott.

They, including many others, have all taken on the 'Larger Than Life' theme in their own signature style.

A source told The Sun: 'Gaga would one day like to set up a foundation in her name to help children and, now her career has really taken off, she feels as if it's the right time to do something.

'She knows it will be a massive amount of work but she wants to start by getting involved in some orphanages that already exist and devote some of her time and money to helping them.'
