Nigeria’s Lady of Songs, Chief (Mrs.) Christy Essien-Igbokwe, MFR, who died in June, began her final journey today with a commendation service in Lagos.

She will take her final bow when she will be buried tomorrow at Awka, the Anambra State capital.
Her casket arrived in the church at about 9:30 a.m. accompanied by her husband who was dressed in a simple white lace with other members of the family.
A service of songs will hold later today in honour of Christy Essien-Igbokwe at Awka.
At the commendation service held at the Archbishop Vinning Memorial Anglican Cathedral, GRA, Ikeja, today, Venerable J. O. Odedeji observed that the deceased, who died at a youthful age, lived a memorable life worthy of emulation.
Ven. Odedeji said all human beings are destined to die at different times. “One day, all of us will die,” he said.
The church service was attended by Lagos State Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola represented by his deputy, Mrs. Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi represented by his wife, Funmi among other dignitaries who witnessed the burial ceremony.
Also at the event were artistes such as Onyeka Onwenu, Stella Monye, Femi Anikulapo-Kuti, Yemi Kuti, Niteshift Gov’nor, Caleb Olumese, Tee Mac, while King Sunny Ade was represented by his organisation’s general manager, Charles Ogundipe.
Former PMAN boss Chief Tony Okoroji and Laolu Akins were also among other dignitaries that attended the solemn ceremony.
Her husband, Chief Edwin Igbokwe and her kids were all at the ceremony.
As at the time of going to the press, the remains in a white gold-plated casket were about being taken to Awka for interment at Chief Edwin Igbokwe’s compound tomorrow.
