Lady Gaga's bare body is drenched in oil for bizarre mermaid photo shoot

Now that's slick! Lady Gaga's bare body is drenched in oil for bizarre mermaid photo shoot

She's dressed up as an embryo, a man and Marge from The Simpsons.

But for her latest project, Lady Gaga is transformed into an oil-slicked mermaid.

The 25-year-old singer's bare body is seen drenched in thick black oil for the striking cover of art publication Visionaire 61.

A special 'Larger Than Life' edition of the magazine is said to be the largest ever published, making it into the Guinness Book Of Records.

For the shoot, thick sludge is cleverly smeared across Gaga's bare chest to her waist.

The Bad Romance star also slips into a dramatic black scaly mermaid skirt to complete the look.

With multicolored streaks in her thick long blonde hair, she wears minimal make-up on her complexion not to distract from the dramatic look.

The artistic photographs were shot by famed photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, and are accompanied by a quote from the singer saying: 'There is no oil too thick as to destroy the imagination.'

The publication is limited edition and comes in two whopping sizes.

But it comes at a hefty price.

A Standard Edition of the magazine, measuring 36 inches x 49.48 inches costs $375, with only 2,500 numbered copies available.

And a Deluxe Edition, measuring 57.48 inches x 79 inches costs a pricy $1,500, with a minimal 250 numbered copies available.

The publication is designed to 'give iconic artists and image-makers the forum to take their visions to a massive scale.'

Other contributors include fellow photographers Steven Klein, Mario Sorrenti and Bruce Weber, British artist and Nowhere Boy Director Sam Taylor-Wood, and famed American Director Ridley Scott.

They, including many others, have all taken on the 'Larger Than Life' theme in their own signature style.

A source told The Sun: 'Gaga would one day like to set up a foundation in her name to help children and, now her career has really taken off, she feels as if it's the right time to do something.

'She knows it will be a massive amount of work but she wants to start by getting involved in some orphanages that already exist and devote some of her time and money to helping them.'

Time for a Cheeky Little Competition...

Hola! I haven't posted on here for a while and I didn't want you guys to think I had forgotten you. No matter how hard I try to leave, Stardoll has sunk their cheap ghetto nails into my skin and they're not letting go.
Now on to today's Stardoll News. Well, yesterdays, but I only got round to posting about it today.

Yes, you read that right. Stardoll are planning their own 'fabulous fashion range' and they want our help to decide what kind of crap people would buy. (Didn't they already do this?) Usually, I'd just shake my head and carry on, but being the cheapskate student I am, I'm in no position to pass up the chance for £100 to spend on clothes. And as it turns out, my sense of style is more important to people than I imagined....

Hehe. Although I have to say, I get mistaken for Rihanna all the time so it's only fair that she gets mistaken for me sometimes. Obviously Stardoll want to gage how we like to dress, and I'm a little curious as to what kind of designs will come out of a lot of people voting for Gaga as their style icon. Bacon headbands? Leggings made entirely from old hair extensions? Gimp masks?
I like to see them go a little coo-coo-bananas. We wouldn't expect it, would we?

So here's my mini-competition. In the comments, come up with what you think Stardoll should name this new fashion range, and any little extra details you want to throw in. Be witty, be creative and be your usual skeptical selves. There's no prize - I'm not MADE of Starcoins - but I'll post the best ones next week and you'll get the satisfaction of your name being seen by thousands without having to strip on Skype or create the next Stardoll Playboy.

The X Factor's glossy new recruit Nicole Scherzinger snogs her American Idol rival Steve Tyler iHeartRadio Festival

Look away now, Simon! The X Factor's glossy new recruit Nicole Scherzinger snogs her American Idol rival Steve Tyler

By Amelia Proud

Much has been made of the rivalry between the hugely popular American Idol and the recently launched X Factor USA.

But if it really is pithy observations at dawn, 63-year-old Steve Tyler and Nicole Scherzinger, 33 , haven't got the memo.

The pair looked very friendly at the second leg of the iHeartRadio festival at Las Vegas's MGM Grand tonight as they jumped on stage to sing together, where the rest of the Idol judging team, Randy Jackson, 55, and Jennifer Lopez, 42, also appeared.

But that's not all they did, as the legendary rocker - looking much younger than his actual age in black jeans, vest and waistcoat - puckered up to the stunning Pussycat Doll.

It's not hard to see why, the latest glossy acquisition to Simon Cowell's juggernaut of success was an incredible vision in a figure-hugging silver dress.

But although it was quite the full on kiss, there is no suggestion of romance between this impossibly attractive pair.

Steve is dating girlfriend Erin Brady, and Nicole is happily tied to F1 champion and proud Brit, Lewis Hamilton.

But you'd have to assume that Mr Cowell, 51 , might baulk a little at Nicole's openly affectionate dealings with the man who replaced him so capably on American Idol.

Especially as she - in turn - took the chair of his dear, loyal Cheryl Cole.

Comedian Gina Yashere who believes she's conquered Lupus with raw food diet

I beat lupus with a raw food diet, says comedian Gina Yashere who believes she's conquered her illness

By Mark Anstead

Pain free: Fina weights 9st 7lb and no longer suffers from the symptoms of lupus

When comedian Gina Yashere last toured Britain, she called the show Skinny B*tch. It was a typically indelicate reference to her recent dramatic weight loss, thanks to a strict regime of raw foods.

After shedding 5st, and dropping four dress sizes to a 12, she enthuses about buying skinny jeans and ‘all those clothes I wanted to wear but couldn’t’.

But for Gina, who made her name on the UK comedy circuit in the late Nineties and was a regular guest on the BBC2’s Mock The Week, losing pounds was never the goal.

It was simply a by-product of steps she has taken to conquer lupus, the debilitating disease she was diagnosed with early in 2005.

The illness, a result of the immune system turning inward and attacking itself, affects 30,000 Britons, and can be fatal in severe cases.

Sufferers include singers Elaine Paige, Seal and Lady Gaga.

There is no cure and Gina, 37, falls into the highest-risk group for developing it. Lupus is four times more likely to occur in those of African, Caribbean or Latin descent, and nine times more common in women than in men.

It is often referred to as ‘the disease with 1,000 faces’, and symptoms range from extreme fatigue, joint pain and muscle aches to anaemia, skin rashes, hair loss and organ failure.

When Gina began suffering pain in her hands and knees six years ago, at first she believed she was developing arthritis.

‘I had been feeling tired for months and my joints were aching, but then I woke one morning to find I couldn’t open my hands,’ she says.

‘My fingers were like claws and it took me half-an-hour to try to warm them up by wriggling them before they were back to almost normal.

‘I also noticed my eyes were dry and I would wake at night to find my lids stuck together. I typed my symptoms into the internet and from the search results I decided I either had arthritis or lupus, so

I went to a private doctor who gave me a blood test.’ Like Lady Gaga, Gina had an aunt who was thought to have died from lupus. She was not diagnosed until after her death, aged 58, due to lack of awareness of the illness.

By the time she was rushed to hospital the condition had destroyed her vital organs and it was too late for doctors to save her.

Professor David Isenberg, director of Rheumatology at University College Hospital, London says the causes of the disease are not fully understood.

‘Lupus can result in a wide range of symptoms similar to arthritis, anaemia or multiple sclerosis, so it can be hard to diagnose.

‘Sometimes it flares up after a viral infection and in many cases it begins with a nasty rash on the face or skin.’ Indeed, at first, doctors believed Gina had arthritis, and she was referred to a rheumatologist at St Thomas’ Hospital, London. Further tests confirmed lupus. ‘Despite what happened to my aunt, I was relieved when I found out because there’s not much you can do about arthritis,’ she says.

‘I knew we had caught it early before it spread to my organs and so I could start taking medication to bring it under control.’

Once lupus develops it usually follows a cycle – the symptoms flare up followed by a remission that can vary in length from weeks to years.

Treatment consists of anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen and steroids. For severe symptoms, the drug hydroxychloroquine can be used, which also dampens inflammation but comes with the risk of side effects including nausea and extreme tiredness.

At first steroid injections brought Gina’s symptoms under control, but in the summer of 2005 she suffered a relapse after travelling to the Middle East. According to Prof Isenberg, lupus can be exacerbated by exposure to sunlight.

When Gina returned she was suffering regular migraines, her knees were inflamed and her neck and shoulders were aching. She was given more steroids and hydroxychloroquine.

‘But I hated the side effects, which meant I put on weight,’ she says. ‘I had good and bad days and I was not very good at remembering my tablets so my symptoms fluctuated a lot.’

Finding it painful to bend her knees or even put her arms over her head, she was unable to exercise. Gina’s weight ballooned from 10st to 15st. ‘But then I saw a TV show called Celebrity Detox,’ she says.

Famous sufferer: Seal also has the disease
Famous sufferers: Both Lady Gaga and Seal have spoken publicly about lupus

‘Everyone was saying how amazing they felt after doing it, so in 2007 I flew to Thailand to the same clinic for a week of fasting and colonics. I lost a stone in a week and felt much better.

‘When I came back I changed my diet to just raw fruit and vegetables and with my symptoms getting easier, I cut down on my medication.

‘Two years ago I stopped taking pills altogether. I am now 9st 7lb and my symptoms have virtually gone. My wrists and fingers still ache sometimes and there are some yoga moves I can’t do, but I have thrown away my raised toilet seat.’

Gina, who moved from Wood Green, North London, to Los Angeles in 2007, doesn’t have her condition monitored in the US because her health insurance won’t cover it.

But when performing in the UK she visits St Thomas’ where doctors check her heart and kidneys, which can be affected by lupus.

Prof Isenberg warns: ‘It is possible for patients to go for years without symptoms.

‘Lupus is always active and there is no proof that diet is an effective treatment.

‘What works for one sufferer might not for another. If a patient has found relief, we can only hope it lasts.’

Before they were famous: Lady Gaga, Scarlett Johansson, Bradley Cooper and more in sweet yearbook photos

It was an age of innocence, before fame and fortune when they were just the goofy kid in class - and these old yearbook pictures give a fascinating glimpse of some of the world's best-loved stars before they were famous.

Released by Ancestry.com as part of their US School Yearbook Collection, they show Lady Gaga, 25, when she was just plain Stefani Germanotta and Scarlet Johannson before she started wearing her trademark red lippy.

In a rather cute picture, a make-up - and tattoo - free Gaga is seen aged around 18 dancing with her father in 2004 during her senior year at the Convent of the Sacred Heart School in New York.

However, as her gaze holds the camera while she wears a chic black dress, some could perhaps see that The Fame was just around the corner.

Meanwhile, Scarlett, 26, is shown in 2002 aged 15 during her senior year at Professional Childrens School in New York.

Wearing a frumpy jumper and totally bare-faced as she decorates a Christmas tree in one shot, though it would be difficult to forsee she would be become a fashion icon and muse, her beauty is still unmistakeable.

Certainly, in the picture where she has donned lipgloss, she dazzles despite wearing the schoolgirl staple of jeans and crew neck top.

Hangover star Bradley Cooper's picture meanwhile dates back to 1992 - presumably a long time before he had a Hangover.

The now 36-year-old is shown during chemistry class in his junior year at Germantown Academy in Fort Washington.

However, the despite the star's current heartthrob status, his inner geek was as clearly evident then as it is now.

Green Latern star Ryan Reynolds, 34, meanwhile is shown with a host of his classmates from Kitsilano Secondary School in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Taken in 1993, it shows Scarlett's ex during his junior year at the school.

Unlike the rest of his Yearbook co-stars however, it seems that Ryan was already the cool kid in class, with his gelled hair do and cheeky look at the camera.

Paris Hilton, 30, is shown winning the accolade of 'the finest girl' in her year as she posed, complete with mortar board, for her Grade 8 Graduation Photo from St. Paul the Apostle School in Los Angeles.

Jennifer Lopez, 42, meanwhile was frizzy haired and perched on a fence at Preston High School in the Bronx, New York, for her 1987 photo.

Notorious curlyhead Justin Timberlake, 30, meanwhile had managed to tame his locks for his 1991 4th Grade pic at E. Jeter Elementary School in Millington, Tennessee - but there was no disguising the gap between his front teeth.

Elsewhere, Leonardo DiCaprio, 36, proved that he was a joker even back in 1991, when he psed for his 1991 Sophomore Year yearbook picture with a comedy speech bubble coming from his head declaring: 'I'm so smart!'

He went to the grandly-named Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies.

And last but not least, 40-year-old Matt Damon appeared to be in training for his role in Good Will Hunting with his swotty in-class pose for his 1988 Senior Year picture at his school in Cambridge, Massachussetts.

Ancestry.com has released its U.S. School Yearbook Collection, as the genealogy website recently expanded its yearbook database to include nearly 7 million images from thousands of schools across the United States.

Lady Gaga transforms into a nightmarish Mermaid - You and I Video

The anti-Little Mermaid: Semi-nude Lady Gaga transforms into a nightmarish version of the mythical creature

By Mike Larkin

Last updated at 6:28 PM on 17th August 2011

She rarely wears much anyway. But Lady Gaga found a new way to expose herself as she wore a perspex bustier which left little to the imagination.

Dressed as the antithesis of Disney's Little Mermaid - Gaga appears in the video for new song You & I as a nightmarish version, ghost-like skin with green hair and weird ink marks on her face.

But it was her outfit which made the most impact as she skin-coloured bustier gave the illusion that she was naked from the waist up.

The song is reported to be about her on-off lover of six years Luc Carl and half way through the track Gaga breaths: 'six whole years' to the camera.

Carl runs a New York bar and Gaga also sings the lines: 'He says sit back down where you belong, in the corner of my bar with your high heels on.'

The promotional clip appears to be rather R-rated - typical of the outrageous singer - but quite whether it will escape censorship on TV's music channels remains to be seen.

She starts out the video by picking grass out of her bloodied feet, before a montage of images, including her stopping at an ice cream van.

Somehow she manages to make the epic journey in a black ankle length skirt, strapped stilettos and giant metal-rimmed sunglasses.

Of course the canny singer, real name Stefani Germanotta insists it all makes perfect sense.

She said: 'The premise of the video is that I've walked all the way from New York City to Nebraska to get my boyfriend back.

‘I'm walking with no luggage, it's just me and my ankles are kind of bleeding a little bit and there's grass stuck in my shoes and I've got this outfit on - it's real New York sort of clothing as it's woolly.

‘It's the idea that when you're away from somebody you love it's torture.

‘It's a very powerful and awful and strange feeling when you're away from the person you love.'

Cheeky Gaga leaked the video on her own Youtube page, and it lived up to her usual bizarrely epic standards.

She dons a series of wacky ensembles the singer would claim are works of high fashion.

She dons a scaled tail as Yuyi the semi-nude mermaid, and frolicks with her boyfriend in a galvanized tub.

As her male alter-ego character Jo Calderone, she bashes away on the piano in a white T-shirt and black trousers.

The video begins with Gaga walking to Nebraska, picking the grass out of her shoes and her bloodied feet. But we also see her in a wedding gown, in flashbacks

She drops to her knees in front of an ice cream truck, where the frozen treats are served by a scary, toothless man. There is a barn in the distance and we think she’s reached her destination.

She may have walked for miles, but she also dances in a barn, with her wild mane of blue hair. We also see some sort of mechanical Gaga being assembled and injected with some unidentifiable substance.

Yuyi is also being watered in her tub by a strapping lad, as she is thrashing and splashing about.

Following on from her latest video is the news she is taking over Santa’s Workshop in the windows of Barneys New York.

A spokesman for the iconic store said: 'For the first time ever, Barneys New York will convert an entire floor of its Madison Avenue flagship for the holiday initiative

'Starting in mid-November, Gaga’s Workshop will be brought to life throughout the fifth floor of the Men’s Store and the store’s iconic Madison Avenue windows.'

Gaga will also design a range of 'exclusive, small gift items' to be sold at the workshop.

'In the spirit of the holiday season,' Barneys New York will donate 25 percent of all proceeds from sales to a charity of Gaga’s choice.

Holiday shopping bags will feature a cartoon of Gaga sporting long blue hair and a skintight version of Santa’s red suit.

Mark Lee, Barneys New York CEO said: 'Lady Gaga is a rare cultural phenomenon... a New York City landmark, we wanted to celebrate Lady Gaga as a fellow New Yorker and amazing talent.'

Meanwhile the singer has been confirmed to perform at the upcoming 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.

Gaga joins a star-studded VMA roster that already includes Adele, Lil Wayne, Bruno Mars, Chris Brown and Young the Giant.

The 2011 VMAs will air from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles live on Sunday, August 28, at 9 p.m.
