Jennifer Lopez reveals what made her break down in tears while performing on stage

When she stood in front of the packed auditorium on Saturday night it all proved too much for Jennifer Lopez and she broke down in tears.

Only now, days later, have pictures emerged of that emotional moment as the 42-year-old singer performed her new song, One Love.

The star has also tried to explain just why she cried and believes it was a reaction to the sympathetic atmosphere in the crowd.

'You know what it was? I was standing there and I realised that I did bare a little bit of my thoughts in this song and I acted it out kind of for the audience,' she later told Access Hollywood.

'And the way they received it was very touching. I think that they felt what I felt, which was that I'm just a girl like everyone else.'

With her hair pulled back and wearing a sparkling costume, the star seemed quite overcome, holding a hand to her chest and looking out over the crowd.
'I'm going to sing you the last song I wrote about love. A lot has changed since then,' she told the crowd.

'We wanted to do a section of the show that talked about love,' she added to Extra of the performance. 'And through it, I go through all the different moments of my life.
'At the end of the day it's a journey. It's about love, It's about loving yourself,' she said. 'The audience saw me being open so they saw it was a regular person like everybody else. I have feelings like everybody else.
'My life gets great and gets not so great sometimes,' she admitted. 'It is what it is.'

The star also acknowledged she became more emotional when she spotted her mother in the audience, and when she performed song Until It Beats No More.

'I didn't see her the whole time until this one moment, and I was a bit emotional,' she explained adding that 'The song reminds me of my babies. It always did.'

'My mom, my family - they are there during the hard times. The babies - I'm strong for them.'

The show also saw a cavalcade of potentially emotional moments for the star when dancers recreated her important relationships while she sang.

At one point a P. Diddy double danced with the female dancer wearing a copy of her infamous slit-down-to-the navel Versace gown, while a ringer for her ex-husband Cris Judd danced with a pared down Lopez look-a-like in jeans.

Another doppelganger was wearing a copy of the mint green gown she wore to the Oscars with then fiancé Ben Affleck as she twirled with a square-jawed replica of The Town star.

But the most dazzling pairing came from the twosome reliving Lopez and Marc Anthony's American Idol performance from May, only weeks before they announced the end of their marriage.
She might have pleaded with us 'not to be fooled by the rocks that she's got' in a past song but if it weren't for strategically placed sequins, Lopez would have literally bared all to her audience at one point.
At other points in the show, Lopez donned a white yet equally encrusted blazer and had some fun with a cane.

And it was clear that despite her sadness over lost loves, the American Idol judge is still full of passion for the future.
After all, there is that burgeoning romance with a certain Bradley Cooper to consider.
However, the singer and actress pledged not to speak about any romances until she is in another serious relationship at her fashion line launch in Connecticut last week.
Lopez said she wants to protect her three-year-old twins Emme and Max in case her relationships do not work out.
She said: 'As a mom, and having children, right now they're my first priority.
'And because of them, I wouldn't ever comment on anything until I'm in a serious relationship again.
'It would just be confusing for them and it would be unfair. And so at the end of the day, it's about them.'
Jennifer tried to hide her face when she was spotted enjoying some time alone with A-Team hunk Bradley earlier this week.
The pair are believed to have started dating last month, when they were spotted enjoying dinner at Per Se restaurant in New York.
Jennifer and Bradley, 37, had tried to explain the cosy meeting away by insisting it was just a professional meeting.

She may have had a difficult year after a public split from husband Marc Anthony, but Jennifer Lopez is looking better than ever.

The singer seems to have discovered the fountain of youth - looking far younger than her 42 years as she stepped out in New York today.

In fact, it was difficult to tell the difference between J-Lo and a nubile twenty-something during the outing.

The On The Floor singer looked stunning in skin tight leather trousers, black flats and a white top, through which a bright dayglow green bra was clearly visible.
A pair of 1950s style white sunglasses completed the look, along with a couple of cuff style bracelets.
The singer strolled arm in arm with a female friend as they hit Madison Avenue for some shopping and famous Italian eatery Nello.

Later, the star threw on an ultra-glamorous fur shrug while stepping out of a Soho recording studio with Black Eyed Peas singer Will.i.am.
Lopez has clearly been making the most of her single status since splitting from Anthony in July.
She recently displayed some sexy moves on the dance floor at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas after performing at the iHeartRadio music festival where she drew admiring glances from male revellers.

Rumours surfaced earlier this month when the I'm Real singer was caught having dinner with ladies man Bradley Cooper, although he has since denied it was a date.
The newly single star will get even steamier when she and Enrique Iglesias release a new duet, Mouth 2 Mouth.
The song is all about desire as the two trade sultry lyrics over a dance beat.
The spicy pair will be heard jointly singing the lyrics: 'I can't catch a single breath, baby.
'Help me now, help me now/Hurry up it's killing me the way I need your mouth to mouth, mouth to mouth. I swear you make me feel alive. I swear you bring me back to life.'

The X Factor's glossy new recruit Nicole Scherzinger snogs her American Idol rival Steve Tyler iHeartRadio Festival

Look away now, Simon! The X Factor's glossy new recruit Nicole Scherzinger snogs her American Idol rival Steve Tyler

Much has been made of the rivalry between the hugely popular American Idol and the recently launched X Factor USA.

But if it really is pithy observations at dawn, 63-year-old Steve Tyler and Nicole Scherzinger, 33 , haven't got the memo.

The pair looked very friendly at the second leg of the iHeartRadio festival at Las Vegas's MGM Grand tonight as they jumped on stage to sing together, where the rest of the Idol judging team, Randy Jackson, 55, and Jennifer Lopez, 42, also appeared.

But that's not all they did, as the legendary rocker - looking much younger than his actual age in black jeans, vest and waistcoat - puckered up to the stunning Pussycat Doll.

It's not hard to see why, the latest glossy acquisition to Simon Cowell's juggernaut of success was an incredible vision in a figure-hugging silver dress.

But although it was quite the full on kiss, there is no suggestion of romance between this impossibly attractive pair.

Steve is dating girlfriend Erin Brady, and Nicole is happily tied to F1 champion and proud Brit, Lewis Hamilton.

But you'd have to assume that Mr Cowell, 51 , might baulk a little at Nicole's openly affectionate dealings with the man who replaced him so capably on American Idol.

Especially as she - in turn - took the chair of his dear, loyal Cheryl Cole.

Before they were famous: Lady Gaga, Scarlett Johansson, Bradley Cooper and more in sweet yearbook photos

Before they were famous: Lady Gaga, Scarlett Johansson, Bradley Cooper and more in sweet yearbook photos

It was an age of innocence, before fame and fortune when they were just the goofy kid in class - and these old yearbook pictures give a fascinating glimpse of some of the world's best-loved stars before they were famous.

Released by Ancestry.com as part of their US School Yearbook Collection, they show Lady Gaga, 25, when she was just plain Stefani Germanotta and Scarlet Johannson before she started wearing her trademark red lippy.

In a rather cute picture, a make-up - and tattoo - free Gaga is seen aged around 18 dancing with her father in 2004 during her senior year at the Convent of the Sacred Heart School in New York.

However, as her gaze holds the camera while she wears a chic black dress, some could perhaps see that The Fame was just around the corner.

Meanwhile, Scarlett, 26, is shown in 2002 aged 15 during her senior year at Professional Childrens School in New York.

Wearing a frumpy jumper and totally bare-faced as she decorates a Christmas tree in one shot, though it would be difficult to forsee she would be become a fashion icon and muse, her beauty is still unmistakeable.

Certainly, in the picture where she has donned lipgloss, she dazzles despite wearing the schoolgirl staple of jeans and crew neck top.

Hangover star Bradley Cooper's picture meanwhile dates back to 1992 - presumably a long time before he had a Hangover.

The now 36-year-old is shown during chemistry class in his junior year at Germantown Academy in Fort Washington.

However, the despite the star's current heartthrob status, his inner geek was as clearly evident then as it is now.

Green Latern star Ryan Reynolds, 34, meanwhile is shown with a host of his classmates from Kitsilano Secondary School in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Taken in 1993, it shows Scarlett's ex during his junior year at the school.

Unlike the rest of his Yearbook co-stars however, it seems that Ryan was already the cool kid in class, with his gelled hair do and cheeky look at the camera.

Paris Hilton, 30, is shown winning the accolade of 'the finest girl' in her year as she posed, complete with mortar board, for her Grade 8 Graduation Photo from St. Paul the Apostle School in Los Angeles.

Jennifer Lopez, 42, meanwhile was frizzy haired and perched on a fence at Preston High School in the Bronx, New York, for her 1987 photo.

Notorious curlyhead Justin Timberlake, 30, meanwhile had managed to tame his locks for his 1991 4th Grade pic at E. Jeter Elementary School in Millington, Tennessee - but there was no disguising the gap between his front teeth.

Elsewhere, Leonardo DiCaprio, 36, proved that he was a joker even back in 1991, when he psed for his 1991 Sophomore Year yearbook picture with a comedy speech bubble coming from his head declaring: 'I'm so smart!'

He went to the grandly-named Los Angeles Center for Enriched Studies.

And last but not least, 40-year-old Matt Damon appeared to be in training for his role in Good Will Hunting with his swotty in-class pose for his 1988 Senior Year picture at his school in Cambridge, Massachussetts.

Ancestry.com has released its U.S. School Yearbook Collection, as the genealogy website recently expanded its yearbook database to include nearly 7 million images from thousands of schools across the United States.
