BENIN – FAMILY of the late NollyWood actor, Samuel Arase Efeimwonkiyekie, popularly called Sam Loco Efe have announced that the late artist would be buried on the 21st of October 2011 in Benin – City.
Meanwhile the remains of the late artist have been transferred from Owerri, the Imo State capital where he died on 7th August to Benin and has been deposited in an unnamed mortuary in the city.
Members of the family led by its eldest son, Bismarck Nosakhare Efe flanked by members of the Actors Guilds of Nigeria, Edo State chapter, disclosed this yesterday at a press conference in Benin City .
The family disclosed that a 30-man Sam Loco Efe Burial/Foundation Committee made up of local artists and those outside Benin has been set-up with Mr. Bismarck Efe as the chairman while Mr. Peddie Okao would act as the Coordinator and Mr. Ogie Ogedegbe as Secretary respectively.
Mr. Bismarck Efe who addressed the press for the family said that they were yet to get the autopsy report on their father’s death.
He said the delay in officially announcing the death of his father was due to police insistence in carrying out post mortem to ascertain the cause of the death and for him to inform the family before informing the general public.
He further explained that all activities concerning the burial of their father would be coordinated from Edo State and urged all other committees to liaise with the 30-man committee adding that,
“This loss is all encompassing. It is not only to his immediate family members but also to the movie industry. It is also a loss to those who are often depressed of hopeless because he brought succor to all.”
Commenting on the controversy surrounding the number of children sired by his father, Bismarck explained that the late actor had six children, two boys and four girls.
According to him, “There are so many conflicting reports about my father’s children. I was amazed at news papers report. My father had six children while alive.”
On the choice of October for the burial, he said,“We choose October date to allow the rain to subside to give my father a befitting burial. We want the public to join in the burial activities.”
