Dare devil armed robbers yesterday raided the Ogun State General Hospital, Ijaiye in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the state.

The hoodlums reportedly subjected in-patients to torture and later carted away patients and their relatives’ money and other valuables.
The hoodlums were said to have arrived the hospital located in Sokenu-Ijaiye area of the state capital at about 1.00am and held the patients and their relatives at gunpoints.

The gang was said to have gained entry into the secondary health institution after they pretended to have brought some patients on emergency. Daily Sun reliably gathered that the robbers, after gaining access to the hospital premises, disarmed the security men collected money, phones and other vital items from them.

Like commandos, the hoodlums reportedly moved round the wards, ordering hapless patients and their relatives to surrender their money and other valuables or lose their lives. An elderly patient simply identified as Odeyemi, 75, who was said to have been on admission for high blood pressure was said to have died as result of the presence of the hoodlums who brandished guns and other dangerous weapons.

Another patient, Wole Oduntan who narrated his ordeal said the robbers suddenly burst into the ward, forcing all patients awake. The robbers who were said to have operated for about one hour without any challenge from any quarter left the hospital gate keys locked and securitymen chained after their operation.

The Ogun State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Mr. Muyiwa Adejobi was not available for comment, as several calls to his telephone set did not go through. Several attempts made to speak with the state Police Commissioner, Mr. Nicholas Nkemdeme also proved abortive as he did not pick his calls.
