Ace singer Stella Monye, the Samba Queen lost her 71 year old mother to cancer of the uterus last week Saturday 16th of July 2011.
According to the Samba queen, Alice Monye her mother has been ill for quite some time but all effort to save her life proved abortive when she passed on that Saturday on her bed.
On what actually happened, Stella told Saturday Vanguard in a telephone conversation that her mother who had been living with her for the past three years was wrongly diagnosed as having fibroid without knowing that it was cancer of the uterus.
“By the time it was discovered that she was having cervical cancer, it was already too late. I am using this opportunity to encourage every woman to go and do a test to know their status on cervical cancer because it is a very deadly disease that is fast killing women in recent times,” she said.
According to the Samba Queen, the family is making arrangements towards the 19th, and 20th of August for the burial ceremonies.
While the family is still deliberating on whether to bury the late Alice Monye in Edo her home of origin or Delta her marital home, a service of song will be held for the deceased on the 27th of August here in Lagos.
