Nsukka bullion van robbery: 5 robbers killed, N62m recovered

ENUGU  -  FIVE members of the twelve-man robbery gang that snatched a bullion van belonging to a first generation bank at Nsukka, Friday,  were killed in a  gun battle with security agencies at Ishielu in Ebonyi State, investigations revealed Sunday.It was also gathered that N62 million was recovered by security agents out of the N68 million that was conveyed by the bank from its branch at Nsukka to the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Enugu before the bandits struck.  The sum of N6 million was declared missing.Seven members of the gang who fled into the bush during the gun duel were said to have carted away N6 million leaving N62 million and their weapons behind.The weapons recovered by the combined Police-Army Patrol team that pursued the robbers from Nsukka through Isiuzo local government to Ishielu in Ebonyi State were two AK47 rifles, 90 empty AK47 magazines, General Purpose Machine Gun, 600 rounds of submachine gun ammunitions and 500 rounds of AK47 ammunitions.Also recovered were two commuter buses, a Sienna Space wagon and a Mercedes V-Booth car believed to have been snatched by the armed robbers in their an attempt to escape with the money.Culled from : vanguard
