Governor's aide, 25 others detained over Boko Haram
The Taraba State Police Command has arrested the Special Adviser to the Governor on Special Duties, Kabiru Dodo, for alleged links with the Boko Haram (western education is sin). Also arrested are 25 persons in Angwan Gardi, Jalingo. But the Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Chintua Amajor Onu, has denied arresting and detaining the adviser. She also said the other 25 persons were arrested for allegedly resisting police presence in their community.“The 25 persons were arrested for allegedly beating up two policemen posted to their community. They don’t want the government or police presence in their area,” she told reporters.Security sources, however, said the 25 suspects are Boko Haram members. An eyewitness told The Nation that heavily armed policemen stormed the Government House, Jalingo Tuesday afternoon and arrested Dodo in his office. The Special Adviser to the governor on Security Matters, Group Capt. Sule Angyu (rtd), confirmed the arrest, saying he did not know why Dodo was arrested.“The police are investigating and it is only when they furnish me with the details that I will speak on it,” he said.It was gathered that Dodo’s unused house in Mile Six, Jalingo, was raided on Tuesday afternoon and some Boko Haram suspects were found camped there.Dodo’s brother also confirmed that the governor’s Adviser is being detained by the police over alleged links with Boko Haram. He, however, pleaded that his brother was innocent. “Our aged parents are worried about his continued detention”, he said. It was gathered that Boko Haram wrote last month to the state security, saying they would strike at the Taraba state capital.Policemen and soldiers have embarked on a “stop and search” of vehicles to avert any incident.
