IBADAN—MR. Sikiru Adisa, one of the survivors of the flood disaster that killed many residents in Ibadan, yesterday, said he lost his four children and an aged father to the flood that ravaged the city on Friday.
This came as the state is said to have commenced the distribution of relief materials to victims of the flooding even as Ogun State Government expressed shock over the flood, saying that the disaster was very unfortunate.
Adisa said this when Deputy Governor, Chief Moses Alake, visited his residence.
Similarly, residents of Odo-Ona Elewe and Challenge areas have been forced to relocate to another area following the flood disaster.
Vanguard gathered that some corpses believed to be victims of the flood were seen floating in some areas at Agbowo.
At Orita-Challenge and Odo-Ona Elewe, prayers were organised during the burial of five persons whose corpses were recovered.
Among them were a father and his son, an aged woman and another middle-aged woman.
At Apete, motorists take a longer route to get to their homes having been cut off by the bridge that caved in on Friday night.
Instead of the former short route, they now pass through Eleyele, Owala Village to link Akufo-Awotan Road before going to Apete.
Students of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, have provided succour for themselves and other pedestrians as they constructed a pedestrian bridge.
As a result of the difficulty in getting to their residences, commercial motorcyclists popularly called Okada riders now make brisk business as they charge outrageously. They charge between N100 and N400 where they formerly charged N50.
Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State condoled with the people and government of Oyo State, Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Samuel Odulana, Olubadan-in-Council and families of those who lost their loved ones and property and prayed God to console them.
In a statement through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Kolawole Olabisi in Akure, Mimiko said: “I want to commiserate with the entire people of Ibadan, Oyo State in general and my colleague, Alhaji Abiola Ajimobi, governor of the state, over this sad incident and the attendant woes that trailed it.
”It is not only an unfortunate incident but a sad one indeed, coming at a time when we thought we have got such unfortunate occurrences behind us in this country. It is equally regrettable that the fury of the flood reared its head again barely five days to a similar dreadful incident in the city on August 31, 1980, 31 years ago.”

The government expressed shock at the level of havoc caused by the flood in Oyo State and noted that it surpassed a similar incident that occurred in Lagos on July 10, 2011.
Commissioner for Information, Mr. Yusuph Olaniyonu said that Governor Ibikunle Amosun, who is away in Saudi Arabia on lesser Hajj, called his Oyo state counterpart, Senator Abiola Ajimobi to express his sympathy and that of the state government.
The government called on the Federal Government and other disaster management agencies to quickly come to the aid of the Oyo State Government in its bid to restore normalcy and bring succour to those affected by the natural disaster.
