I inherited robbery from my father – Suspect

ChristainChristain
A suspected armed robber, Christian Okafor, 31, has revealed that his late father was the leader of a robbery gang before he was poisoned to death by one of his gang members for exposing the gang to the Police.
In an exclusive chat with our correspondent, the robbery suspect, whose wife is said to run a boutique in Yaba part of Lagos, described himself as a native of Umunobo village, Nteje in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State.
He said: "I sell new clothes in Yaba Market in Lagos. My father retired as an armed robber. He operated in Anambra State, Lagos and the North, particularly Sokoto. He used to train and arm any gang he formed. He later retired but his boys were not happy, because he used to expose them to the Police. He was later poisoned to death.

"I was very small then and I wanted to replace him and avenge his death. Hence, I became an armed robber. I am not ashamed to do what my father did.
Asked how he was arrested, he said: "It was on Ketu Road on Wednesday, March 16, 2011, at about noon. I saw somebody making a phone call to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Lagos State Police Command, telling them that robbery was going on in a bus along Ketu Road, Lagos.
"I told our leader, Chibuzor, who was with a pistol to get him for calling SARS. But before we knew it, the SARS men arrived and people told them where we were. Our leader noticed it and entered our get-away car, which was standing by.
"The driver could not wait for us to enter, even though we had finished operation. He left us behind. The SARS operatives came and asked us to surrender ourselves if we did not want them to use their rifles. Two of us surrendered ourselves to the SARS men. Their leader, Abba Kyari, a Superintendent of Police, ordered them to handcuff us and they put us in a police vehicle and took us to the Police Headquarters in Ikeja."
Recalling how they conceived the robbery operation, he said: "We were three: myself, Ifeanyi Udeh and our leader, Chibuzor. He took us to Benin, City on a business trip. He said there was an importer of clothes that would like to supply us imported clothes worth millions of naira to sell in Lagos and take commission. We were very happy. We left for Benin- City on a Sunday and stayed till the following Wednesday when Chibuzor gave each of us N3,000 as our transport fares back to Lagos.
"We went to Efosa Motor Park, Iyaro Benin-City around 8 am to board a bus to Lagos. Each of us paid N1,800. We were on Ketu Road, Lagos, Chinedu, who sat in front of the bus with a pistol, ordered the driver to stop. A traffic jam was building up in the area.
"He also ordered all the passengers, including myself and Udeh, to come out and lie flat on the ground. He then ordered us to search all the passengers while they lay down. We collected their money (cash), phones, wrist watches, earrings and expensive shoes.
"When we noticed that one man hid his money in his pant, we asked everyone to undress completely. We did not rape any woman, to avoid being trapped. After collecting every valuable item we found on the passengers and the driver, our leader ordered us to use one of the passengers’ travelling bag to load our loot, which we did and handed over to him.
"He told us to be on the alert as he called the driver of our get-away car, whose duty was to come and take us away from the scene. We did not know that people had started making calls to SARS. When I realised that, I told our leader, Chinedu, to gun down the man that was calling SARS.
"But as soon as he entered the bus, he noticed that SARS had arrived in the area. He then ordered the bus driver to move on, and he went away with our loot in the travelling bag.
"We were stranded at the scene as the crowd increased because of the presence of SARS men. When the man who led the operation (Abba Kyari) told us to surrender if we wanted to live, we quickly gave ourselves up and his men handcuffed us and took us away in their vehicle.
"I was very small when my father died. He used to deceive people that he was a business man selling Mangala fish in the North, but I knew him as a very notorious robbery gang leader and trainer of armed robbers."
Udeh, 27, a native of Ozom Aguobo village in Eziagu Local Government Area, Enugu State, said he was a spare parts dealer at 11, Oloto Street, Wilobi area of Oyingbo in Lagos before he took to armed robbery.
Speaking to The Nation, he said: "I did not begin life as an armed robber. I was led into robbery by Chibuzor. I knew armed robbers because after dismantling snatched vehicles, they would bring the parts to me as imported spare parts. I made money from it, because I could buy a whole dismantled vehicle for N30,000.
"At times, they dumped them with me and I gave them whatever I liked. Therefore, when Chibuzor told me to follow him to Benin, I could not object because my life and success depended entirely on his cooperation with me.
"He gave me N3,000 and I paid N1,800 as transport fare. Our leader escaped and both of us were arrested when SARS operatives arrived. He escaped with the car driver he phoned to come and take us away after robbery. We were very unlucky.
"Help me tell my father to forgive me, because we don’t have armed robbers in our family. I am not proud to be the first armed robber arrested in my family. I also advise young men to run away from bad and corrupt friends to avoid the kind of situation I have found myself. Crime does not pay. Once you are in it, you will not take advice from responsible people, including your parents or friends, until you are arrested.
"If God saves me from this problem I created for myself, I will openly fight any criminal that comes near me."
On what they used the sledge hammer that was found on them for, he said: "We used it to create in a wall a big hole through which we can pass, especially when the building has a strong iron gate. It also helps the gang to enter a building without the occupants knowing until they are captured.
"As for the saw, we used it to cut thick iron rods and strong padlocks. At times, we frightened the owner of the house with it; like threatening to cut off his fingers or legs. We smoke Indian hemp to overcome fear."
The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Suleiman Abba, urged SARS operatives not to relent in wiping out armed robbers from the state to help Lagos maintain its reputation as the centre of excellence, peace and positive development.

The Public Relations Officer, Mr. Samuel A. Jinadu, who confirmed the arrest of the robbery suspects, said the command would not relent in its efforts to reduce crime to its lowest ebb in the state.

How to wear leggings

Erica Okudaye
For most women leggings is a style option, which is why knowing how to wear leggings makes all the difference between looking chic versus looking like a fashion throwback. Leggings are one of those items that women usually either love or hate. They’re easy to slip on, and with the wide range of colors available, they’re easy to accessorize. However, they aren’t the right choice for every situation.
Wear leggings with tunics: The simplest way for women to sport leggings is underneath a tunic, tunics vary in length, so it’s modest that your tunic is long enough to cover your hips and rear; otherwise, this is a look better suited for the gym instead of the street. You can wear a belt with it or not. Just make sure your look is balanced – since a tunic is roomy, your leggings should be fitted. One way to sport a monochromatic, casually elegant ensemble is to wear a black tunic with black leggings and black high heel shoes.

Petites and tall women: Petite women should take care when wearing leggings with a roomy top. Make sure your top is proportioned for shorter women so that it doesn’t fall past your mid-thighs – otherwise, it can look like you’re wearing a dress with leggings underneath. Also, your ensemble should be as monochromatic as possible for an elongating look. Tall women should also select their tops with care. You want to wear a shirt that comes down far enough so that your rear isn’t exposed.
Choose the right shoes: Leggings look best with flats, or plain pumps.

Court dissolves 25-yr-old marriage over sex denial

An Abeokuta Customary Court, on Friday, dissolved the 25-year-old marriage between a senior citizen, Amos Odeshina, and his wife, Omotade, over alleged denial of sex by the latter.
Odeshina ,71, a retiree, had on April 7, told the court that he had been married to Omotade for 25 years and have four children aged 22, 20, 18 and 14. He alleged that Omotade had in the last three years refused him the right to make love to her, lamenting that he could no longer bear this.
“The last time we had sex was in 2008,” he said. “I had tried all my possible best to convince her but it had all proved abortive; Omotade is very wicked. I was told that she sleeps around with other men, including her former husband although I don’t have any evidence to prove it.”

Odeshina said the situation had forced him to marry another wife, expressing regrets that Omotade had made life difficult for the younger wife. “My lord, is it not an irony that she doesn’t want to me to make love to her and she is standing in the way of someone who is interested?’’ he said.
Reacting, Omotade, a 45-year-old cleaner, confirmed her husband’s claim of sex denial in the last three years. She, however, attributed this to the tedious nature of her job, saying she usually had long working hours at work.
“I work round the clock to fend for the family, but my husband will just sit at home doing nothing,” she said. “His only concern is how to make to love to me. I will not accept that.”
She also told the court that she had been responsible for the payment of house rent, children’s school fees as well as the general upkeep of the home. “My lord, inspite of the fact that I foot all the bills in our home, he still has the gut to marry another wife,” she said. “How can I allow someone like that to make love to me?’’
Omotade, who consented to the dissolution of the marriage, however, appealed to the court to order the husband to take good care of the children.
In his judgment, the President of the court, Ishola Fajebe, regretted that all efforts to reconcile the couple did not yield result. He dissolved the union accordingly and ordered Adeshina to allow  Omotade  have access to the children whenever she desires.

Catfight, "sleep with one eye open"!

Oh boy, cattiness to the next level. You all remember Vasia28, right(?), the once very known(not the case anymore) starlet got caught up in a fight with a New Gen (new generation of stardoll) member, SedonaJ. Yes, 'Sudoku Freak' from Texas (hillbilly accent) is back at it again!

SedonaJ, if you don't know is the owner of Stardoll's Vlogs. About a month this chick released a psychotic scream for attention, rant video titled "Stardoll Confessions: Mean Girls." talking about the crickets in the background, everyone 'popular' person who hates her on stardoll, and her sticking up for Jack. Did I mention she talking about sticking up for Jack, because she was totally talking about sticking up for Jack... as she said many times!

It seems as if she wrote out what she was going to say and put on a show for us to giggle at. To add, this 13 year old quite the potty mouth, I mean GOSH f*** you, f*** that, you're crazy!

While she was going on and on about sticking up for Jack, she promised not to do it anymore because of the turn outs. She said she was over the drama but look at what she left little miss Vasia:
"Ut-oh" as Mr.Drama King (Jack) himself would say. Looks like someone broke a promise! Someone got caught sticking up for the same friend she swore she'd stop sticking up for.

Well, from my understanding Vasia had some word to say about Jack. Apparently she called him gay, and told Jack to kill himself. This didn't sit well with SeDonaJ so she went to Vasia's guestbook and basically called Vasia a has-been, the 'c' word, and threaten to hurt her with a virtual kick in the ass! That outta do so damage ahh?

Vasia told SeDonaJ to go 'f**k' Jack, but then took it back because she believe Jack messes around with little boys.

Who won this round? Y'all have a good day now, ya hear?

Dumped and abandoned: The pathetic story of Ruffia

This is the sad, touching story of a young girl who simply identified herself as Ruffia. According to the girl who could barely communicate

Ruffia...abused and abandoned at a refuse dump
audibly, she was born a normal child, but that is not the case today as she woke up one day to discover she was suffering from Down Syndrome. She said her present predicament was caused by her father, whose identity and location she was unable to give.
Despite her pathetic condition, some unscrupulous and unknown individuals still conspired to rape her at a refuse dump where she was staying at Federal Second Gate Bus-stop, Ijanikin, along the Lagos- Badagry expressway. She became pregnant as a result of this sexual assault.

Ruffia told Vanguard Metro that her daddy brought her there because she couldn’t walk. “He brought me here in the afternoon; three of them brought me here,” Ruffia said, adding that she was taken somewhere first before she was later dumped at the Second Gate.
An eye witness, who identified himself as Mr Biodun Arowolo , said that the little he knew about Ruffia is that about four months ago, somebody brought her and dumped her at Adio Bus-stop before they later brought her to the Federal Second Gate.
“She was lying down at the front of our gate for about two weeks and people have been rendering help to her in terms of feeding,” he said. Arowolo told Vanguard Metro that the Federal Second Gate community chairman, Mr Onolapo, sent a message to one Akolawole Olawuyi, to come and pick up the girl. “I also learnt that they sent messages to the motherless babies home to come and pick her. But none of them responded. However, the community people have taken it upon themselves to be feeding her morning , afternoon and evening,” he informed.
Arowolo continued: “According to those people who spoke to her, she said some of her family members dumped her here. I have never heard her talk before, but there is a security man here that talks to her. From all indications, it seems as if they used her for rituals and now came to dump her. But all I know is that the people of this community are taking good care of her”.
Residents of Federal Second Gate Ijaniki told Vanguard Metro that they woke up one morning to find a girl at the refuse dump. They, at first, thought she was a mad person. One of the residents, who had been taking care of the girl, Mr Rasaki Isiaka, told Vanguard Metro that he woke up one morning in December 2010 and saw her at Alasia Bus-stop area of Ijanikin at a refuse dump.
Isiaka said he thought initially that she was a mad person until he took a closer look at the girl.
He noted that she was unable to move and he was wondering how she got there. After three days, Isiaka said he was surprised to see her at the side of the bridge and also in their community.
Isiaka who has since been providing for her, said he and the people of the community have been giving her money to buy food and people some times give her packaged food, mat and blankets to cover her self.
“I saw that she has moved to the side of the bridge and later moved into the community. So when I was coming from the toilet, I moved close and saw her; it was in the presence of one of my friends, who is a commercial motorcyclist named Jonah. I moved close to her and asked her what her name was. She said Ruffia in a voice that I had difficulty hearing because she could hardly talk. I asked after her parents, she said her father was alive, while her mother was dead. On her siblings, she said she doesn’t know them, but that they live somewhere in Lagos. She equally could not tell where her house of residence was located.
“So I later went to call one of our Alfas in the central mosque in this our community. I asked him to pray over a bowl of water; I took the water after the prayers and bathed her on that day. While I was doing this, people gave me some money to assist in her upkeep. I went to buy clothes and food for her with the money. After that, she regained some strenght and began to talk gradually.
“She even went as far as playing with some little children that came around. The other day, some people saw her, while I was at a party and said a vehicle ran over her legs. When I got back, I asked her what happened to her. She was only able to demonstrate by gesticulation that a vehicle indeed ran over her legs”.
Isiaka further told Vanguard Metro that although Ruffia can still not stand and walk, but that whenever he bathes her and stretches her legs, they get straightened.

Jonathan goes on 7-day retreat at Obudu

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan will today embark on a seven-day working retreat to the Obudu Resort in Cross River State.
A statement released by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Ima Niboro, in Abuja, on Thursday, said that he would be accompanied by some senior government officials and his aides but was silent on the exact nature of the president’s engagement.
Meanwhile, the Labour Party (LP) has presented to the president a blueprint of the issues it considers important for the president to focus on when starting his new administration next month.
The party’s leadership, led by its national chairman, Dan Nwanyanwu, was at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, where Nwanyanwu also explained the rationale behind LP’s decision to endorse Jonathan for the presidential election.
According to him, “the Labour Party is a very serious political party. We are from a very strong background. We consider Nigeria and Nigerians; we look at things that will benefit the greatest number of people and we are always talking about common goals. So, we have submitted those documents to him and he assured us that he would look into them and we are going to send another one next week.”
The party leader, who described the endorsement of LP as very significant, said the party did not just endorse Jonathan, but “we met with him, we put our manifesto on the table, critical issues the Labour Party felt must be addressed and he had no problems with those issues.”
He added: “Those issues have to do with tackling unemployment both for the educated and the uneducated of this country, building infrastructure, education, power, Niger Delta, the Nigerian worker and industrialisation of the country.
“So, these were the issues. Before the elections, we took up with the president in the course of our interaction with him. These are the critical issues he must tackle as he resumes office next month.”

Arrival of lady’s corpse from S/Arabia creates scene

A drama played out at the interntional wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, on Thursday, when the family members of a 27- year- old lady who died under  mysterious circumstances in Saudi Arabia rejected her corpse.
The body of the lady, which was flown to the Lagos airport from Saudi Arabia at 12.30 p.m. aboard Emirates SkyCargo, was left unclaimed for hours by the family at the Gate 1 of the airport where it was displayed for family’s identification until 4.40 p.m.
The family members  were said to have engaged themselves in a duel on how to receive the remains of the lady until some heavily armed police officers and soldiers came to intervene in the matter that would have resulted in a big chaos at the airport.

The deceased’s sister, simply identified as Sade explained  that they suspected foul play in the circumstances that led to the death of the deceased    she named Itunu Comfort Ogunkola, which she said led to the refusal of the family to accept the corpse.
Sade, in her explanation, alleged that the late Ogunkola was kidnapped by one Mrs Ibitoye who secretly processed her travel documents and took her to Saudi Arabi to work for one Mrs Olukoko who had a hair dressing salon.
According to her, everything, from the time of processing the deceased’s  travel documents up to the time of her death, was shrouded in secrecy.
In her words:‘’The woman, Ibitoye presented herself as her mother when they were processing Ogunkola’s documents for the trip.”
According to her, the late Ogunkola, who was staying with one of her relations at Shangisha in Lagos, was not seen for about a week, but she suddenly called her mother, Florence Adeosun, with a foreign number and explained that she was already in Saudi Arabia with Mrs Olukoko.
According to Sade, the family could not fathom why someone who was not ill in February before she left could suddenly die in March.

NDLEA saves two Nigerians from capital punishment

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has again saved two Nigerians from capital punishment in Hong Kong and Malaysia in relation to drug trafficking offences.
The suspects, Dunu Samuel Okwuchukwu, a 39-year-old international businessman ingested 1.110 kilogrammes of cocaine on his way to Hong Kong, while Mmaduekwe Christopher, 32-year-old auto parts dealer in Dakar, Senegal hid 1.385 kilogrammes of methamphetamine in his sandals on his way to Malaysia.
Worried by the daring nature of drug traffickers who smuggle narcotic drugs to countries with capital punishment for such offences, NDLEA is seeking anti-drug enlightenment fund to enable it intensify campaign programmes across the country.

According to the chairman and chief executive of the agency, Ahmadu Giade, the agency needs fund for aggressive national campaign.
“A situation where young men and women now see drug trafficking as an escape route from poverty is bad and unacceptable. We have arrested many of them at the airports and border posts with drug going to countries with capital punishment for drug culprits. The latest arrests further underscore our call for proactive measures to tackle the problem headlong and protect the lives of our citizens. We need fund to execute enlightenment campaign programmes. A robust campaign will go a long way in re-orientating drug traffickers on the need to shun the criminal act” Giade stated.
NDLEA Airport Commander, Hamza Umar, said that drug traffickers planning to use the Lagos airport would continue to be arrested and prosecuted.

Nigerian airlines now refuel offshore as local price turns prohibitive

Demuren_biz_28-04-11
WITH the rising price of aviation fuel in Nigeria, airlines are now refueling their aircraft in neighbouring countries of Ghana and Togo, where the product is cheaper, for local and international operations.
Disturbed by the development, the Federal Government, yesterday, summoned aviation fuel marketers to explain why the product is more expensive in the country and the consequent refueling of aircraft offshore.
The price of aviation fuel rose from N98 to N160 recently, although marketers have attributed the skyrocketing price to high cost of its importation, since the product was not being refined in the country.
The Director-General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Dr. Harold Demuren, confirmed the meeting with the aviation fuel marketers yesterday, saying there was no way the airline could continue to operate successfully with the current trend.
According to Demuren, aviation business was not a gold mine, adding that returns on investment in aviation could be three per cent for the airlines or even manufacturers.
He said that while marketers have raised price of their product over time, the carriers have only marginally increased air fares, saying: “We cannot operate that way”.
“The price of aviation fuel in Nigeria is ridiculously too high. We need to knock this down. We are working on it and I believe we will be able to do this. We can’t continue this way.
“There is a lot of loopholes that we are trying to close right now. We are talking with the government and the third meeting with the fuel marketers will be major, because everybody will be present.
“Aviation business is not a gold mine. A lot of people who come to this industry feel it is a gold mine. The rate of return on investment in aviation is about two to three per cent for the airlines or even manufacturers”, he added.
Most of the cash flow you see belongs to fuel marketers, maintenance organization, training facility and they have to pay lease rental, only little belongs to the airlines”.
He however, lauded a new entrant into the sector- First Nation Airways, for undergoing all mandatory safety audits for the qualification of Air Operator Certificate (AOC), the all-important criterion for airline business.
The airline, which had taken delivery of three A320 aircraft and in fourth stage of NCAA certification, is expected to commence operations after the fifth stage, which is the summary of over 300 manuals the airline was subjected to.

The return of Lolita!

Lolita is back! (You could really say that she never left) She recently re-friend requested me and I found this nifty little note on her presentation:
She reveals that she had been hiding under an account by the name of TVDfanF. Doing what exactly? I have no idea. In typical Lolita style, her presentation is rather cryptic. In all, she's only been gone for about nine/ten days... did she miss us*? (*and by "us" I mean the evil gremlins that populate Dollywood)

A quick visit to this TVDfanF page reveals some serious lulz:

Oh Lolita, you are an endless source of amusement! The only true response to this nonsense that comes to mind is "WTF?". This whole process of theatrically "leaving" Stardoll only to come crawling back is a bit... routine by now.

Welcome back Lollipops! You were missed (for the week you were gone). ;D

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE!!! Apparently, her account was under attack by vicious Polish hackers.

NFF vice President, Mike Umeh said the board was deeply touched by the unfortunate death of the young Nigerian international.
“The only thing we can do now is to put ‘Bayo in prayer. Bayo did not deserve a ‘red card’ at this young age. In his short life, he put Nigeria’s name on the World Map and brought smiles to millions of faces. Nobody expected his exit so soon,” Umeh eulogised. Former national team goalkeepers trainer, Joe Erico said Olubayo touched many lives.
“The little time he spent on earth, he touched so many lives. We can’t question God.” Erico, however, advised that in the spirit of the national anthem, “let the works of our heros past not go in vain.”
