Asaba -A middle-aged pastor, was among nine suspected kidnappers paraded at the Delta State Police headquarters in Asaba, yesterday, over their alleged involvement in different cases of kidnapping.
Also yesterday, four suspects arrested for allegedly vandalizing Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, cables were paraded with the recovered amoured cables that were being carted away.
State Police Commissioner, Mr Mamman Tsafe told newsmen that the pastor was picked up following the discovery of a 3 -year-old baby at his residence.
According to him, “on the first of this month at about 2130 hours, one Yoleme Edoja, female aged 3 years, was kidnapped at Ughelli. ‘A’ Divison Ughelli patrol team working in synergy with local vigilante traced the suspects to their hideout and arrested a pastor of Pentecostal African Church, Ughelli and a Cameroonian.” He added that the victim was rescued unhurt at the pastor’s residence.
According to him, the suspects had demanded N4 million ransom before they were caught.
The CP also said that another group of kidnappers kidnapped a 6-year-old boy at Kaduna and “demanded the sum of N2.5 million and directed the mother of the child to Oleh, Delta State to trade the ransom for her son.” Tsafe commended his men, who, on Sunday, trailed and arrested one of the suspects while trying to pick the ransom along IDC Road Oleh.
