A woman and her two kids have been choked to death by smoke after fire razed their home in Ikotun, a suburb of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
The woman identiified as Mrs Ojo and her two children, Rachael, 2, and Richard, 8 months, were trapped inside their flat and were choked before help could come their way.
The incident happened at 17, Fehintola street, Ikotun, Lagos.
P.M.NEWS gathered that although they were not burnt by the fire, the smoke from the fire might have choked them to death.
The cause of the fire that razed the two flats was not yet clear at the time of filing this report.
According to a resident, the late Ojo went to a party with her kids and returned late at about 10 p.m. on the day.
He said that an hour later, her sitting room was filled with smoke that spread to other rooms.
While she raised alarm, she also struggled to get out with her kids but could not locate the doors because of the smoke.
All her doors and windows were protected with iron bars that made their escape impossible, P.M.NEWS learnt.
Her other neighbour was able to rescue his family, but all his properties were burnt.
P.M.NEWS also gathered that the deceased who was a council worker was living with her two children alone.
Her husband was said to have travelled abroad for greener pasture.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the victims have been deposited at Isolo mortuary for autopsy.
When P.M.NEWS visited the burnt home, a team of fire service men were still around and the police were also at the scene.
The residents who were also at the scene of the incident expressed shock over what happened.
They described the late Mrs Ojo as a woman who lived at peace with her neighbours.
