Senator David Alechenu Bonaventure Mark was today returned unopposed as President of the Senate.
He will preside over the seventh senate, which was convened today following the proclamation by President Goodluck Jonathan.
He was nominated by Senator Victor Ndoma-Egba and his nomination was seconded by Senator Smart Adeyemi.
Ndoma-Egba described Mark as the "author of the Doctrine of Necessity", which brought then Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan in as acting president following the long absence of the late President Umaru Yar'Adua.
Senator Ike Ekweremadu was also returned unopposed as Deputy Senate President following his nomination by Senator Zaynab Kure.
His nomination was seconded by Senator Ahmed Lawan.
Mark and Ekweremadu were sworn in by the Clerk of the National Assembly.
