Beauty Week - Let's Get Meaningful.

We find ourselves easily caught up in whirlwinds of 'Vote me Miss Stardoll World' and 'Best Dressed Lists', so I thought I'd bring a little meaning to the proceedings and tell you about the upcoming 'Beauty Week'. Well, when I say 'I', I actually mean 'AislinVictory'.

If you're an avid follower of Memoires of a Medoll - and there's really no excuse for not being one - then you'll have read the heartbreaking story of Emily, Aislin's cousin. If you haven't read it, you can read it here, just make sure you are a) wearing waterproof eye makeup and b) have a box of tissues on standby. To summarize, Emily sadly took her own life due to bullying over a birthmark that covered part of her face.
To honour her memory, Aislin is pulling together Beauty Week. Not the I-can't-put-foundation -on-without-a-cement-mixer-and-a-trowel type (that's mine) but the kind that actually matters, and that probably gets less attention than physical beauty. Being a website primarily full of teenagers, I think we can all identify with needing to feel beautiful every once in a while.

You can read up on how exactly you can get involved in Beauty Week by visiting Memoires of a Medoll, and I'm sure Aislin will be open to any questions or volunteering offers.

Speaking of volunteering, one of the perks of writing for a major Stardoll blog such as this one, is that you can reach a large number of people at once. And, in my time here, I've noted that you're all a bunch of talented little things. So why not put that talent to good use? Using StarDesign, design a T-shirt for Beauty Week that is based around Emily and her story - send the screenshot to Aislin and your design could be worn by numerous dolls all to raise awareness of inner beauty.

Hopefully by the end of this week, we can all help to shed some light on how these issues affect people our age, as well as realising that we all have similar experiences when it comes to our appearance and self-confidence.
And that's really beautiful, right?

EDIT - Beauty Week has been confirmed as the final week of September!

The UK Riots: An Article by Russel Brand

"If we don't want our young people to tear apart our communities then don't let people in power tear apart the values that hold our communities together."

Big Brother isn't watching you

Dismissing rioters as mindless is futile rhetoric. However unacceptable the UK riots, we need to ask why they are happening.

It Gets Better!

Hey everyone! I'm sure most of you have heard of the recent gay teen suicides, and seen the "It Gets Better" anti-bullying campaign of videos featuring everyone from Kim Kardashian to President Obama. The tragedies have really inspired a strong reaction out of people, notably my namesake and blog inspiration, Perez Hilton. He uploaded a video in which he said that after posting about the tragedies and condemning bullying on his blog, a lot of his readers accused him of being a hypocrite, as he himself is seen as one of the biggest bullies in Hollywood. He really took this to heart, and responded by taking an honest look at himself and genuinely pledging to hold himself to a higher standard and not be part of the problem:

Even I had stopped going to his website, after a while I just grew tired of the constant negativity. But after watching that video I decided to support him again, and there has been a significant change in the tone of his blog. He still pokes fun at celebrities, but is no longer mean-spirited and cruel. It's been really inspiring to witness, and it got me to thinking about this blog and my behavior. I always thought that this blog was harmless and all in good fun, but did anyone ever see me as cruel and mean-spirited? Did I sometimes go too far? What are your thoughts on the gay teen suicides, and bullying in general? I'd love to discuss this with you guys so please leave a comment below!

By the way, my favorite "It Gets Better" video is Brian Gallivan's, the guy that plays Sassy Gay Friend on youtube (best video of them all is definitely the Romeo & Juliet spoof!) CLICK HERE to watch it.

A Disaster in Haiti and How You Can Help

Most of you have probably heard about the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti yesterday, the strongest earthquake in over 200 years (7.0 in magnitude). Many schools, hospitals, churches, homes and other buildings, including the presidential palace and the Hotel Villa Creole in Port-au-Prince, collapsed and were completely destroyed. Possibly several hundred thousand people were killed (the exact number of casualties is not yet known) and even more are still missing, trapped inside of buildings or beneath the rubble. This disaster just adds to the suffering of an already impoverished nation, the poorest country in the western hemisphere. Several of the friends I have made at my university are Haitian and have family members still living in Haiti. Some of them have not been able to contact their parents, siblings, aunts and uncles, grandparents etc. to see if they are alright. It's a very sad and scary situation, and I just wanted to do my part in raising awareness and helping in any way that I can. To learn more about how you can help, please visit the following websites:

American Red Cross

Yéle Haiti

Mercy Corps

Doctors Without Borders

CLICK HERE for more ways you can help!

For missing family members, call 1-888-407-4747

Text "HAITI" to 90999 to donate $10 to the Red Cross relief efforts
The $10 will be charged to your phone bill, and all proceeds WILL go to the Red Cross, I've done my research and that is the official Red Cross contact number being promoted by the White House's website. Please be wary of other SMS charities you may see in the future, as a lot of them are scams. Also, since most of you do not pay your own phone bills lol, ASK YOUR PARENTS FIRST! :)
