From Hogwarts to Oxford: Emma Watson puts acting on hold as she joins prestigious university

From Hogwarts to Oxford: Emma Watson puts acting on hold as she joins prestigious university

Sitting next to her in a lecture, a hungover student might be mistaken for not recognising Emma Watson.

Dressed down in jeans, boots and an anorak, the Harry Potter actress looked like any other proud newbie on her first day at Oxford University.

Only Watson is worth £24million and is a global superstar.

The 21-year-old beauty posted a picture of herself on her blog, grinning at the camera with her thumb up as she posed outside the iconic building.

Watson also clutched an armful of books and revealed she will be 'busy studying' as she embarks on the new term.

The Burberry model wrote: 'To Everyone who is starting a New School Year, (sorry those who have been at school for a while Oxford starts late).

'Just to say have a great term and good luck with all your work.

'You might not hear from me for a while because I will be really busy studying but I wanted to just say hi and bye.'

The young star put her education on hold at America's Brown University earlier this year to focus on her acting.

She has since made My Week With Marilyn, due out later this year, and The Perks Of Being A Wallflower.

But Emma has said she will return to Brown to complete her degree.

She remains enrolled at Brown, even though she will study at Oxford this autumn, and intends to return to Providence, Rhode Island, next year to complete her studies at the Ivy League school.

Bunny girl Emma Watson reveals her insecurities

'I worry about looking good': Bunny girl Emma Watson reveals her insecurities

Prick up your ears.

Emma Watson has something to say about the pressure Hollywood puts on young women to look a certain way.

Quite why she had to pose in a bunny outfit to get her message across in a magazine interview is unclear.

But the 21-year star of the Harry Potter films is adamant that being famous is not going to make her cave in to the fashion for stick thin figures and plastic perfection.

‘I do worry about the expectation to look a certain way,’ she told Elle magazine.

‘I find LA quite scary because of that – all those young people having plastic surgery. But the thing is, I don’t want to look like everyone else.

‘I don’t have perfect teeth, I’m not stick thin. I want to be the person who feels great in her body and can say that she loves it and doesn’t want to change anything.

‘It’s ridiculous that seems such an unrealistic goal. I think the actresses who are really successful are the ones who are comfortable in their own skins and still look human.’

Smouldering Emma Watson comes of age in new Trésor Midnight Rose perfume ad

Paris by night: Smouldering Emma Watson comes of age in new Trésor Midnight Rose perfume ad

As she leaves the days of Harry Potter behind her, Emma Watson takes another step towards becoming a defining figure in the world of fashion and beauty.

Stepping from one role to another, the face of Lancôme has firmly made the new lead position hers - and has proved that she has well and truly come of age in the process.

In a new ad for Lancôme Trésor Midnight Rose perfume, the star oozes elegance and charm as she wins the affections of French actor Cyril Descours.

The playful storyline sees a refined and edgy Emma accidentally leaving her trilby hat in a Parisian book store. The helpful - and devastatingly handsome - Descours attempts to return the hat to the Mademoiselle... and the two eventually clinch - well, almost - under a night sky on the banks of the Seine.

The actress morphs between coquettish, boyish cool and evening chic in the love story, her red lips and jaunty hat a world away from her days at Hogwarts.

The award-winning 21-year-old actress follows in the footsteps of Hollywood stars Kate Winslet and Penelope Cruz who fronted advertising campaigns for the French company in the past.

At the launch of the fragrance in May, the British actress said the perfume is 'addictive, it's warm, it's playful, it's sweet, it's everything I hoped it would be.'

She has also starred in Burberry campaigns and is no stranger to front rows of some of the most high profile fashion weeks catwalks.

The ad was shot in Paris back in March, when, despite looking immaculate while the cameras were rolling, Emma chomped on chicken kebabs during the break - proving not all A-list stars deprive themselves for their size zero frames.

The former child star, who is the face of the brand, confessed she wasn't much of a fragrance connoisseur before joining the project.

She said: 'I didn't really like perfumes before because I thought they were heavy, but this one is really light and playful.

'I feel lucky to embody a fragrance I am so crazy in love with.'

The brunette beauty raved about her wonderful time in France, tweeting to her one million followers: 'Had such an amazing time in Paris with Lancome!

'Soon to start filming Perks of Being a Wallflower - can't wait! Hope everyone's ok xx'

The new production will see Emma sidestep away from the JK Rowling series with a more series role.

The story follows Charlie, a high-school freshman, who is struggling to cope with mental issues.

He is introduced to the world of sex and drugs by friends, Sam - played by Watson - and Patrick.

She may not be well known this side of the Atlantic, but Lucy Hale clearly wants to be noticed.

The US actress, best known for her role in Pretty Little Liars, stepped out in a pair of heelless platforms at the Teen Choice Awards yesterday.

Lady Gaga also has a penchant for the eccentric shoes, on this occasion from designer Giuseppe Zanotti.

The 22-year-old picked up the award for Choice Female Summer TV Star for her work on the hit ABC Family series at the event in California.

Lucy has been on a steady rise to fame since her teens, with small roles in The Wizards of Waverley Place, Bionic Woman and Privileged.

While the brunette star didn't quite have fireworks exploding from her bra or any facial prosthetics, she did opt for an unusual dress that wouldn't seem out of place in the Bad Romance singer's wardrobe.

The asymmetric gown was slashed at the neck and entirely covered in cream and black sequins.

Homegrown talent Rupert Grint and Tom Felton also put in an appearance, taking home the trophy - or rather, surfboard - for Best Movie and Best Sci-Fi/Fantasy for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.

Felton, who plays baddie Draco Malfoy, also won Best Villain.

The boy wizard franchise won seven awards in total, including Choice Movie Liplock for Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson's screen kiss.

Looks like Emma has finally found a man who isn’t terrified of her! Harry Potter actress besotted by movie co-star

Looks like Emma has finally found a man who isn’t terrified of her! Harry Potter actress besotted by movie co-star

She has complained that men find her intimidating.

But now it seems Emma Watson has bewitched her latest co-star after they were spotted embracing in Los Angeles.

Emma, 21, looked ‘besotted’ as she tenderly kissed Johnny Simmons, 24, who stars with her in the upcoming £30 million drama The Perks Of Being A Wallflower.

The couple have been spotted together before, but previously it was denied they were in a relationship.

Yet there could be no doubt that they are deeply involved as the Harry Potter star, in a multi-coloured maxi skirt, white sweater and sandals, and Johnny were locked together in a lingering clinch outside a restaurant in Santa Monica.

Emma has fought hard to shake off her prim schoolgirl image after playing Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films.

And her new American boyfriend should suit her purposes well – he has a slightly risque past and even had the odd run-in with the police. His film career includes playing a drug addict and sexually explicit scenes.

An onlooker told The Mail on Sunday: ‘They were all over each other, kissing and hugging. It was very sweet to see. She looked utterly besotted. A girl recognised her and approached her.

Emma was polite and acknowledged her, but she just wanted to be with Johnny and was clearly under his spell. They’re obviously head-over-heels in love.’

Johnny has spent the night with Emma at the upmarket house in Santa Monica where she has been staying with friends.

A source said: ‘The moment Johnny turned up Emma was all over him. He stayed overnight at least one night this week. It is clearly a serious relationship.

They might have denied it before but they don’t seem to be trying to hide it now.’

Another friend said: ‘Emma loves how down-to-earth and normal Johnny is. He’s very charming and sweet.’

Emma and Johnny were seen together in a park in June, but at the time her publicist strongly denied they were an item.

That month at the MTV Movie Awards afterparty Johnny was spotted pinching Emma’s bottom. It was only recently Emma lamented how hard it is to find a boyfriend.

She said: ‘I say to my friends, “Why hasn’t x called me?” They’re like, “Probably because they are intimidated.” It must be the fame wall.

I find it hard to believe anyone would find me intimidating.’

Johnny – Alabama-born and brought up in Texas – has a past in the tradition of Southern ‘good ol’ boys’.

He was arrested aged 19 in May 2006 for going at 80mph in a 65mph zone. Two days later he was arrested again for being in possession of alcohol below the legal age of 21 and was fined £350.

The 2009 film Jennifer’s Body featured him and Amanda Seyfried in a sex scene which he told his parents not to watch because he was so embarrassed.

He was lauded by critics for playing a drug addict in The Greatest, also starring Pierce Brosnan.

Emma and Johnny met on the set of The Perks Of Being A Wallflower in May.

Due for release next year, the movie is adapted from a controversial novel that couldn’t be further removed from Harry Potter, featuring drugs, sex and suicide.

Emma, who earned an estimated £19 million last year thanks to the final two Harry Potter movies and deals with Lancome and Burberry, recently announced she will attend Oxford University this autumn in an exchange year from her studies at Brown University in the US.

Her former loves include financier Jay Barrymore, eight years her senior, and musician and fellow Burberry model George Craig.

Spokesmen for Johnny and Emma did not return calls or comment last night.

She may have put the magical Harry Potter franchise behind her now, but it seems Emma Watson still has the magic touch.

Ditching her classic English Rose chic for a slightly edgier look, the 21-year-old appeared to have won the affections of her male co-star in a new advert.

The award-winning actress used her charm on French actor Cyril Descours while filming a campaign for Lancôme Trésor Midnight Rose perfume.

Emma Watson looked like a bronzed goddess as she walked the red carpet for the final time for Harry Potter today.

The actress dazzled in a stunning strapless creation by Bottega Veneta at the premiere of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 in New York.

Emma, Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint were joined by other stars of the film including Tom Felton and Alan Rickman, and celebrity guests Sarah Jessica Parker, Matthew Broderick and Seth Green at the event.

Of her dramatic gown, Emma said: 'New York is such a fashion capital, I felt I could push the envelope a bit. With London I went a bit more classic (in her fairytale Oscar de la Renta dress) but for today I wanted to do something edgier.'

The 21-year-old wore her gamine crop slicked and looked very grown up in elaborate gold leaf eye make-up.

Her striking appearance is a far cry from the little girl who turned up to the New York premiere of the first film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone in 2001.

Shown a picture of herself from that night by E! Emma cringed at her garish green outfit, but quipped, 'Look I had fun with it! I was wearing gold make-up that night too, so I'm sensing a theme.'

Emma managed to hold back the tears for this red carpet after giving in to her emotions at the London premiere last week.

She told reporters: 'A part of me is very sad and emotional. It's been a tricky juggling act to do my job and be professional but it's very emotional.'

Asked by reporters what she plans to do tomorrow, with her Harry Potter duties complete once and for all, Emma said: 'I think I'll go have a really big brunch, and sleep, and try to take it all in.'

While Emma looked serene and end every inch the Hollywood starlet, he co-star Daniel Radcliffe admitted his excitement was getting the better of him.

'I'm sweating like a pig in labour,' he joked as he walked the red carpet, the last to arrive, in an all-black ensemble.

The star of the film franchise was pictured sharing private jokes with Emma and Rupert Grint as they posed together for the final time.

'We have a sibling relationship,' he told reporters. 'No one knows what it's been like to go through this mad journey but us.'

Daniel, who turns 22 next week, was also shown a picture of himself as 12-year-old at his very first Harry Potter premiere. He laughed, 'I'm basically the same aren't I, I look the same, with just a slightly deeper voice.'

Speaking to Time Out this week, he joked that his diminutive frame isn't the typical Hollywood action hero build.

'It’s very rare in your career that you get to play an action hero. I’m not the natural frame and stature of an action hero, so I may not get to play one again.

Speaking about his last outing as the boy wizard, Daniel said: 'I said to someone the other day, "It’s like the emotional range of Shakespeare with the action and blood of Tarantino." The body count in this film is massive.'

Earlier today Emma arrived at the Late Show with David Letterman today looking gorgeous as ever in a glittering mini dress.

With her gamine crop slicked back, the 21-year-old posed for photographers wearing the unusual one-sleeved Prada dress.

The fashion-forward outfit was only let down by her black patent and cork wedges. The style, a favourite of Kate Middleton, has been popular of late thanks to the Duchess, but looked a little too conservative for her sequinned silver frock.
