Shocker: Army finance officer commits suicide in Abuja

Authorities of the Nigerian Army Garrison Command headquarters in Abuja were shocked ,Friday, to discover the body of a Sergeant attached to the finance department, located inside the Mogadishu Barracks after apparently committed suicide. The body was hangling from a ceiling fan in the apartment of the deceased.

A source said, SGT Simon Nwodo who lived at Block 17, Flat 17, Room 2, was not seen in the office on Thursday 18th May 2011 while many calls were made by his bosses and colleagues to ascertain his whereabouts without any reply.

Later that same day, some soldiers were sent to go and check his apartment to see if he was at home but ill.

On getting to the apartment, the soldiers discovered his body dangling from the ceiling fan..

The officer, who was said to have been posted from Lagos to Abuja a few years ago, left a wife and children living in Lagos. He was said to have told colleagues that his Abuja apartment was not be suittable for him and his family.

Contacted on the development, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations of the AHQ Garrison, Lt. Colonel Agim confirmed the incident but said the deceased officer did not leave any suicide note behind.
