ABUJA – The House of Representatives yesterday pleaded with the Federal Government to name some prominent places like streets in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja, after the 10 members of the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, who were killed during the post-election violence in some northern parts of the country.
The Reps also requested that a handsome compensation be paid to the families of the bereaved.
Meanwhile a group, Forum for Purposeful Governance & Democratic Ethos, FPGDE, has said it would develop a space in Abuja, known as ‘The People’s Hall of Honour’, to honour the corps members and other heroes and heroines of democracy. Specifically, it said it would construct a peace garden in the state capital for the fallen 10 in their memorial.
Adopting a motion sponsored by Dino Melaye, (ANPP, Kogi State), the House equally urged governors of all the states of origin of the slain corpers to name prominent streets after them in their states.
Explaining his motion, Melaye had argued that the N5 million given to each of their families was not enough to compensate for their lives
