Reject postings to northern states, group directs Yoruba corps members

THE Action Committee for Restoration of Oodua Sovereignty led by its President, Right Reverend Emmanuel Bolanle Gbonigi has directed Yoruba graduates to henceforth reject postings to Northern States of the country since the zone has become a “slaughter slab for Yoruba Corpers”.
The influential Yoruba group also called on the National Youth Service Corps authorities to urgently review its posting arrangement and patterns to ensure that corps members are posted to states within their geopolitical zones of origin.
“This call should be looked into; otherwise the NYSC may be accused of pre-meditated genocide against Yoruba and other Southern nationalities.”
ACROS said, the eruption of violence occasioning gruesome murders, maiming, arson and displacement of persons in thousands in some parts of Northern Nigeria in the wake of April elections were pointers to the fragility of the entity called Nigeria and the urgent need to undertake a comprehensive review and restructuring of the union.
It said that despite its warnings that restructuring should be done before election was held, the country still went ahead and had the election.
“We have to be radical to have true democracy in the country. We are suffering and the situation is getting worse and worse. ACROS and other Yoruba groups would work together to fight for our right without being violent.”
The group maintained that the rules governing the scheme had been rubbished adding that “If you want our children to work in your land, you have to guarantee their safety. We cannot sit down and watch and be watching our youths being slaughtered like rams. We won’t accept this again”
“We cannot use our retirement money to train our children and later they would now bring their dead bodies to us here. We shall not accept any more deaths of our people. When our youths are given employment, they don’t give them jobs, but they give them on contract for a while. And when they notice their children have been trained for the jobs, they sack our children. We are going to use legitimate weapon to fight for our rights”, the group stated.
“We will continue to pressurize the so called political leaders to do politics the way it should be practised. Else, there will be revolution. If things are not right, I am going to be the one to lead the revolution”, the bishop said.
Continuing, the group maintained “It seems our youth corps members are to provide human manpower for the North. How many of Northern youth corpers do you see here in the South? They keep them up there in their zone. To say it is to strengthen the unity of the country is not the issue. If the scheme is cancelled it would not diminish the said unity”.
