Police arraign house wife for dumping baby in pit



ABUJA-The police in Abuja yesterday arraigned a house wife before an Abuja Magistrate Court for dumping a dead baby in a pit behind Ushafa Camp fence in Bwari, Abuja.
Mrs Adenike Ogungbamiro, wife of a military officer at National Defence College quarter, Bwari, was charge with concealment of birth contrary to section 239 of the penal code law.

Police prosecutor, Inspector Patrick Obeta, told the court that  the case was reported to the police on April 27 by Sgt Okogha Asemhomhe, a military police officer attached to National Defence College, Abuja, that he found a dead baby behind the fence and investigation revealed that the accused did delivered a baby on April 9 and dumped the dead body in a pit.
When the allegation was read to her at the trial, the accused pleaded not guilty to the offence, while the prosecutor asked for a short date to open his case.
Magistrate Muyiwa Oyeyipo granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum, who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court. The matter was adjourned till June 13 for hearing.
