As Kitty Brucknell apologises for 'racially abusing The Risk's Derry during sofa row' fans urge for her to leave The X Factor

As Kitty Brucknell apologises for 'racially abusing The Risk's Derry during sofa row', fans urge for her to leave The X Factor

Trouble seems to follow Kitty Brucknell wherever she goes, and following the latest race row fans have urged her to quit The X Factor.

The former Britney Spears impersonator was forced to apologise to The Risk singer Derry Mensah after he claimed she made a racist remark towards him during an argument.

The alleged incident took place when Mensah, 20, asked Brucknell, 26, to move from a sofa in a rehearsal room.

After the singing wannabe lost her temper, he believed she shouted: 'You evil black b*****d, f*** you Derry.'

Brucknell has apparently now written an apology letter to Mensah, saying she was so exhausted from rehearsals that she didn't know what she was saying.

But fans of the show have slammed the show's decision to keep her in, saying the backstage antics had gone too far.

One viewer said: 'I’m tired on a daily basis but never would I verbally abuse someone because of it or use it as an excuse.

'I think this is disgusting behaviour and the X Factor management should take this very seriously and not just give her a "firm talking to.."

'Behaviour like this should not be acceptable in any circumstance let alone still be happening in 2011. She has lost my vote!!!!!!!!'

Another fan simply said: 'Every week Louis says to Kitty "I don't know why people don't like you, I don't know why you're not connecting with the viewers"... Well Louis, now you know!'

A source told The Sun: 'Kitty did not apologise face-to-face because Derry didn't want to speak to her for obvious reasons.

'In her letter, she said how sorry she was and that due to lack of sleep she might have said something offensive - but she wasn't sure because she was so tired.

'She told Derry she was really sorry for the argument and wants to be friends.'

After another singer who witnessed the row complained to Katie Hobbs, a member of the X Factor production staff, Brucknell was quizzed over the incident.

The source added: 'The producers gave Kitty a firm talking to after the incident.

'They tried to get it resolved as soon as possible because she was very upset.

'Since then, she's tried to be very friendly with Derry but he's not interested. They did used to talk and they got on well but she just snapped randomly.'

A show spokesperson said yesterday: 'There was an argument that was looked into by production. The matter was resolved.'

But despite their claims that the incident was 'resolved', viewers continued to discuss the topic on message boards.

One person claimed: 'If its true then SHE SHOULD GO!', while another fan said, 'I am a supporter of this woman and her vioce (sic), but this sort of incident is not acceptable, if she did use racially abusive language then i am sorry in my opinion she shjould be told to leave.

'no excuses open the door and let her go. shame for such a waste of talent, we all get tired but we do not go around abusing people of colour?'

Kitty Brucknell dons underwear for night out in Soho with Johnny Robinson

You're not on The X Factor now! Kitty Brucknell dons underwear (and not much else) for night out in Soho with Johnny Robinson

She's been pushing the boat out every week on The X Factor, aiming to shock and impress with her wild and crazy outfits.

But last night Kitty Brucknell appeared to have ignored the fact she wasn't live on television, instead choosing another skimpy outfit for a night out in Soho.

The 26-year-old singer stepped out in a black bra and knickers set, fishnet tights, teal jacket and sparkly shoes as she hit London with fellow X Factor contestant Johnny Robinson.

Kitty, who narrowly avoided being voted off the show last weekend, teamed her outfit with a pair of sunglasses, a black cinch belt and a huge black necklace.
Johnny, meanwhile, teamed his white shirt and jeans with a sparkly scarf and colourful pair of high-top trainers.
Kitty took to Twitter ahead of her evening out to tell fans what she had planned, tweeting: 'Going to Old Compton St tonight for a bit of fun with @jrmusicoffic :-)'

And the pair couldn't resist indulging in some singing during their night out, taking to the microphone in a local karaoke bar - no doubt gearing up for this weekend's live shows.
During their fun-filled night out, Kitty and Johnny enjoyed a ride around on a rickshaw, with Kitty coming very close to falling off as she stood up in the moving vehicle.
Kitty said in a recent interview that while some people love to hate her, she has never been fake during her time on the show.
She told the Daily Star: 'There’s no acting, there is no fakeness from me. Believe me there are people in here who are fake, but I’m not. I promise you that.

'Every year there is one person picked on as the panto villain, but that’s fine. It’s not something that’s important to me. I just want to be a good performer.
'I think getting booed is something that people expected because of the way that I have been portrayed. It’s not about people who hate you. Even if 100,000 people hate me, if 100,000 people like me that’s all that counts.'
Kitty caused controversy last weekend when her mentor Louis Walsh chose to save her over Sami Brookes.

But after escaping the chop, Kitty took to Twitter to thank both her fans and Louis for giving her another chance.
She wrote: 'Thank u so much for all your support last night. I'm devastated that Sammi has gone, she was my close friend and I will miss her a lot.'
Kitty later added: 'Louis, thank you so much for saving me. I'm eternally grateful, thank you thank you. I am staying fearless and remind myself that every day.'

Ready for their close-up! X Factor contestants get the pop star treatment as they get pampered in hair and make-up and mingle backstage with the stars in candid behind-the-scenes photos

As a bunch of pop wannabes they've already proved that they have the voices that can take them to the top of the charts.

But with their future resting on their image as well as their fantastic vocals, the X Factor contestants must also be sure that they are looking their absolute best when facing the judges, the public audience and the million of viewers as well.

So getting the pop star treatment from hair stylists and make-up artists is a must before each live performance in order to transform them from ordinary to outstanding, as these behind-the-scenes pictures show.

In the candid backstage snaps taken on Saturday and Sunday, the finalists are seen getting their image tweaked and teased to perfection as they prepare to fight to stay in the competition ahead of the live shows.

First in the chair was 19-year-old Sophie Habibis, who looked relaxed and happy in the make-up artist's chair as she beamed for the cameras before going from barmaid to rock chick for her performance of Bon Jovi's Livin' On A Prayer.

Kitty Brucknell also underwent and amazing transformation as she posed for a picture in her everyday clothes having had her hair put up Lady Gaga-style before emerging from the dressing room as a super-cool pop star in her low-cut black suit and dramatic eye make-up.
Purple was the theme for Misha B as she emerged from make-up with sexy and sultry violet eyes before making her way to the costume department to get kitted out in her black PVC outfit for her rendition of Prince's Purple Rain.

Girl group Rhythmix were also seen in and out of the dressing room as they got prepared for their performance of Ke$ha's Tik Tok, which caused a debate as to whether it was actually rock for the rock-themed week.

Lots of behind the scenes pictures were taken over the weekend, especially on Sunday which sadly saw Sami Brookes kicked off the show in favour of Kitty.

But before she tearfully departed the reality TV show, Sami got to meet one of her idols, Kelly Clarkson, who won American Idol in 2002 and performed her new single on Sunday show.

Contestants also mingled with Professor Green, who also performed on the show and were snapped with each other and the judges as they wrapped up another busy and eventful X Factor weekend.

And a photographer who was lucky enough to get in on the action backstage managed to capture the excitement - and no doubt absolute nervousness - of the contestants as they put on brave faces before heading onto the stage with their mentors to face the public vote.

And that moment when the screen was pulled back and the acts were ushered on the stage in front of the public audience was captured as they all gripped hands and went out to discover their fate.

Kitty Bucknell triumphs as Sami Brookes becomes the third X Factor casualty

Clinging onto the Edge Of Glory: Kitty Bucknell triumphs as Sami Brookes becomes the third X Factor casualty

Louis Walsh was faced with sending one of his own acts home tonight as Kitty Brucknell and Sami Brookes fought for survival in the bottom two.

The X Factor stars battled each other, with Brucknell's rendition of Lady Gaga's The Edge Of Glory triumphing over Brookes' version of Aretha Franklin hit A Natural Woman.

Walsh's decision proved unpopular with the studio audience, as he was greeted with boos.

Gary Barlow said both acts were 'unbelievable' and credited Sami for her vocals, although it was obvious who he was going to save having previously called her 'karaoke' and 'a cruise ship singer'.

The Take That star said: 'Sami, your voice is undeniable but I've always found you a little bit dated.'

Kelly also saved Kitty, 26, adding: 'This is really hard. Sami, I absolutely adore you and Kitty I think you're a wonderful entertainer, but I'm sending home Sami.'

Tulisa spiced up the vote by opting to send Kitty home, saying: 'I've got to vote with my heart and the person I most connect with, so the act I'm sending home is Kitty.'

This meant that if Louis had chosen to save Sami, Dermot O'Leary would've had to go to deadlock, where the phone-in figures are the deciding factor as the contestants have two votes each.

Walsh said: 'I love both girls, but Kitty, you're not connecting with the public for some reason. Sami, you were incredible, you sang your heart out. Do I go with my head? Do I go with my heart?

'I'm going to go with my heart and the person I'm going to have to send home is Sami.'

The 31-year-old had the last word, saying: 'I may not be able to sell a million albums, but I am going to sing for the rest of my life.'

At the beginning of the show, the opening group ensemble was notably missing, immediately sparking speculation on Twitter that contestants can't stand being in the same room long enough to practice.

In reality, it was most likely due to the fact there were three star guests, including American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson, Professor Green featuring Emeli Sandi and Bruno Mars.

Louis also apologised for last night's antics, when he accused Misha B of bullying contestants.

He swallowed a large dose of humble pie, telling host Dermot: 'We're all so involved in our own acts, but I got a bit carried away.

'I know I shouldn't have used the b-word and I apologise for that. It was the heat of the moment.'

Following his lead, Tulisa also backtracked from her accusations, having previously said Misha's backstage attitude was turning sour.

In what appeared to be rather scripted, she told Dermot that 'Misha stole the show', but her face told a different story.

Marcus Collins was announced as the first act returning next week, saving his nerves from turning to shreds again after he was the final artist to be called last Sunday.

Despite the dramas last night, Misha B was the second act to be saved, with Johnny Robinson, Rhythmix, Janet Devlin and Craig Colton jumping for joy as Dermot called their name.

Sophie Habibis was greeted with a huge cheer from the audience as she was sent through, while Frankie Cocozza received a chorus of boos.

The cocky 18-year-old will no doubt be reprimanded by mentor Barlow for swearing before the watershed on the family show, shouting 'f***ing have it' as his name was called.

The Risk were saved until last before Sami and Kitty were revealed as the bottom two.

22.10.11 X Factor judge Gary Barlow turns brutally honest with his act Frankie Cocozza

'I promised I would never lie... but you were awful last week': X Factor judge Gary Barlow turns brutally honest with his act Frankie Cocozza

By Emily Sheridan

Last updated at 11:16 PM on 22nd October 2011

Since replacing Simon Cowell in the head judge's seat, Gary Barlow has quickly gained a reputation as the honest 'Mr Nasty' of the competition.

But tonight, the Take That singer admitted he had 'lied' on last week's show when he praised his act Frankie Cocozza, who narrowly avoided leaving the show after ending up in the bottom two.

After the 18-year-old performed Primal Scream's Get Your Rocks Of, Barlow decided to come clean over his praise of the Brighton-native the previous week.

Barlow said: 'When I decided to sit in this seat, there was one thing I promised myself I would never do, and that was lie and I lied for you last weekend and I said your performance was good and it wasn’t…it was awful. You deserved to be in the bottom two last week.

'Coming back tonight, to me, that was a comeback. Not an incredible comeback, but a comeback to who you should be. I think you did pretty well tonight.'

Cocozza's performance bizarrely started backstage with a black and white camera following him backstage.

In his VT prior to his performance, he boasted about going out and 'pulling lots of girls', to the concern of Barlow, who warned him to stop partying and focus on his practise.

Rowland admitted she was 'worried about how seriously he was taking the competition'.

After his performance, Walsh said: 'It was a great entrance, I think the song choice suited you and this should be your comfort zone. Because you are a rocker. Something worries me, I think you’re a little bit over confident.'

Liverpudlian hairdresser Marcus Collins, 23, was the first to perform, taking on Lenny Kravitz's 1993 hit Are You Gonna Go My Way.

Walsh told him: 'What a brilliant opener. You're so out of your comfort zone doing rock. If I was marking you out of 10 would it be 10.'

Tulisa admitted she was surprised given his quieter rehearsal earlier that day: 'Why did I have a feeling you were holding back in rehearsal... But tonight you blew me away. The choreography wasn't too much. You were wild.'

Rowland was equally appreciative: 'This week you came out here and made the stage ours. I've been worried about you in the past but tonight you took control of the stage.'

First from Rowland's Girls group to sing was Northern Ireland's Janet Devlin, 16.

The teen performed a lower tempo version of Guns N' Roses 1988 rock anthem Sweet Child O' Mine.

But Tulisa wasn't sure the song was rockier enough: 'That is a massive rock song, but it didn't feel very rocky. Not to say it wasn't very good, but it wasn't rocky. I didn't get that rocky edge from you.'

Predictably, her mentor Rowland disagreed: 'I am so proud. You delivered a rock song. You killed it baby, killed it.'

But Barlow also liked it: 'Janet was simply beautiful and gorgeous. Well done. I really like to see you moving around.'

The first of Walsh's Over 25s to perform was Sami Brookes who sang Cher classic If I Could Turn Back Time.

After being dubbed a cruise ship singer by Barlow the previous week, Sami failed to impress the Take That singer again.

He said: 'That was totally boring...

Barlow was then booed by the audience and angrily announced 'someone is swearing at me down here'.

He told Sami: 'We're here to find someone who's gonna sell albums, singles, CDs, downloads. After that performance you're gonna be none of the above.'

Her mentor Walsh angrily defended Sami against Barlow's charges: 'This girl was literally getting sick two hours ago. She pulled it out of the bag. That was a powerful performance...'

To which Barlow interjected: 'Not with my ears.'

Tulisa was heard saying: 'That's really patronising...' before host Dermot O'Leary started interviewing Sami on stage.

Sami went on to beg viewers for votes: 'I didn't particular want to do the song. I did my best.

'Look, I know its a recession, I know its nearly Christmas, but if you (the public) could spend a £1 and vote for me I would be eternally grateful.'

When asked what she thought of Barlow's comments, she replied: 'I love Gary, he knows what he's talking about. That could be never karaoke, sorry Gary.'

Barlow insisted he thought Sami had a 'great voice', but 'its about seeing the potential to become a superstar... You know Louis, he takes bad acts and makes them even worse.'

Another act to cause a rift between the judges was Tulisa's girl group Rhythmix who performed a rock version of Ke$ha's Tik Tok, with a few choruses from Salt N' Pepa's Push It

All three judges told Tulisa the song wasn't rock, although she protested: 'It's rock week, not rock song week. If you didn't know it was Ke$ha and you heard it tonight it would be commercial rock.'

Rowland told the four-piece: 'You really sound great together. I think the look needs pulling together. I really want you guys to be the girls better than the last female group that was here.

Turning to Tulisa, Rowland said: 'You should take back your comment about that (Janet's song) not being rocky, because that wasn't rock... It's Ke$ha pop!'

Barlow agreed: 'Very nice performance. Tulisa I don't think you've understood the rock theme. It means taking a rock track, that wasn't a rock track.'

Fortunately the next to perform, Sophie Habibis, managed to get the judges back on the same page with her cover of Bon Jovi's 1986 track Livin' On A Prayer.

Tulisa said: 'If you're gonna turn any rock song into a ballad, then that totally rocks. I think you're great and I love your personality.'

While Walsh liked her performance, he accused Rowland of not spending as much time with Habibis as her other acts Devlin and Misha B.

He said: 'So much better than last week. You made that song your own. You've got a lot of competition with the other girls. I'd like Kelly to work with Sophie more.'

Rowland hit back: 'What does Louis know? You're amazing.'

Barlow, who had told Habibis she needed to find her 'spark' last week, told her: 'At last you're making an emotional connection with your songs, that was great.'

Liverpudlian Craig Colton, 22, was next up and his performance of Oasis track Stop Crying Your Heart Out also managed to get Tulisa at odds with the judges over the genre boundaries.

She said: 'You have the most amazing voice and you have the star quality and that was an amazing performance.

'But I have to go back to it again, I think I’ve got the wrong end of the stick when they said rock week, because I thought it was about the energy and the vibe and the guitars and I felt like that song was turned into a ballad and it was an amazing ballad but it didn’t feel like a rock song.'

However, Rowland disagreed: 'That was definitely a rock song. You've got to respect the song's roots. I feel like you're back in your zone. So proud of you, great performance tonight.'

Harmony was restored to the panel when Kitty Brucknell performed Paul McCartney and Wings' Live And Let Die.

She started off on the piano, before moving over to a microphone stand.

Tulisa declared: 'THAT was rock, that was what you call rock. I can never find anything bad to say about you. You're an amazing artist, you're an amazing performer. I think you're a lot softer than people think, let down the barrier.'

Barlow said: 'Kitty I can start to see where you’re going with this and I’m in all the way. In fact you are the only contestant who is trying to say something through their music. You’re creative, innovative. I’m here…ready!

Like the rest of Tulisa's acts tonight, The Risk performed a rock version of a song from a different genre - Gnarls Barkley's 2006 song Crazy.

But all the judges agreed while it was good, it wasn't as good as previous weeks because bandmember Ashley J Baptiste, 22, has laryngitis.

Walsh said: 'Its not exactly hard rock. I love the way the four of you sing. Charlie, you are my favourite singer. You don't look very happy. It wasn't as good as last week.'

Barlow added: 'You totally pulled it off. There's a great work ethic in this band that a lot of the other contestants could learn from.'

After receiving negative criticism from Barlow the previous two weeks, Johnny Robinson's rendition of The Darkness song I Believe In A Thing Called Love managed to win him over.

Barlow said: 'Johnny I really enjoyed that. There's only you that could sing that song tonight. Amazing... I'm just very interested, where did you get your suit from Argos?'

Fortunately Robinson was ready with a comeback: 'No, it was from your wardrobe!'

Rowland gave him a mixed response: 'I must admit, you really do rock. You're such my guilty pleasure. I'm not sure if you'll sell records, but I love to watch you and I have a good time.'

Last to perform was Misha B with a powerful version of Prince's Purple Rain.

However when it came to critiquing her performance, it was all about backstage tension between Misha and other contestants that became the talking point.

Walsh told her: 'You've got a very unique voice. You've a very confident performer, I hope you're not too overconfident.'

Tulisa's remarks contained a warning: 'When it comes to talent you are way up there. You are definitely a star of the show.

'I do have one negative, you're very competitive, I've seen a different side of you backstage.

'You being so feisty can come across as mean by other contestants. Take that energy and leave the war behind. I think you'll be amazing, just put aside the attitude.'

Barlow tried to bring the focus back to the performance: 'I don't care what goes on backstage. We should be getting involved in that. I'm loo0kng for an artist, someone to sell albums, and there she is there.'

Rowland vehemently defended Misha: 'You brought it clean and clear and on fire tonight. I'm so proud of you. (Turning to Walsh) I think some of your categories should get some more confidence.'

Walsh then interjected: 'One of my contestants has complained about Misha bullying her backstage.'

The X Factor results show is on ITV1 at 8pm on Sunday night.
