Modelling is only my back-up career: Daisy Lowe

'Modelling is only my back-up career. What I really want to do is use science and logic to fight crime': The world according to Daisy Lowe

The 22-year-old model on having an analytical mind, being covered in snakes and why googling yourself is a terrible idea

'I've been financially independent from the age of 15. I get called an 'It-girl' all the time and I just don't get it,' said Daisy Lowe
'I've been financially independent from the age of 15. I get called an 'It-girl' all the time and I just don't get it... I've been employed since I was a teenager and always had a strong work ethic,' said Daisy Lowe

For someone from a full-on rock ’n’ roll family, Daisy Lowe seems astonishingly normal and well adjusted. Her mother is Britpop singer Pearl Lowe. Her step-dad Danny was the drummer in Supergrass.

In 2004, a paternity test confirmed that her biological father was Gavin Rossdale of Bush fame.

By that time Daisy was already making a name for herself as a model. Spotted by a talent scout in Camden Town, she signed to the Select agency and has since worked for some of fashion’s biggest names on the catwalk and in ad campaigns.

Now 22, she is dating Doctor Who star Matt Smith and has homes in London and New York.

'Maybe the only way I could rebel against my mum (Pearl Lowe) was to be as straight as possible'
'Maybe the only way I could rebel against my mum (Pearl Lowe) was to be as straight as possible'

Modelling means being prepared to be covered in snakes.

I’m fearless when I need to be. In my work I’ve not been known to turn down a challenge. I’ve posed naked quite a few times now, and that doesn’t bother me. I’ve done some mad shoots with the U.S. photographer Steven Klein where I’ve hung off a giant crane and jumped naked into a tub of slime. Modelling is so much more interesting if I’m scared into doing adventurous things. It means I’m performing rather than just standing in front of a camera. I love throwing myself in at the deep end. I recently did a shoot that involved four huge snakes crawling over my body. I spent the whole weekend fretting about it. On the day itself I didn’t want them to smell my fear in case they decided to bite me. So I got into my relaxed zone and actually enjoyed the experience. It helped that I had my dog, Monty, there to protect me. I would lay down my life for Monty.

Character skips generations.

That theory definitely applies to my family. It’s been well documented that my mum enjoyed a party or three. My grandmother isn’t remotely rock ’n’ roll. In fact, she’s the most organised person I’ve ever met. My great-great-grandmother, however, was a bit of a wild thing and she played the violin in one of the first ever girl bands in the Twenties. I pretend to be rock ’n’ roll, but I’m not really. Maybe the only way I could rebel against my mum was to be as straight as possible. Logic would suggest that my kids will be total hellraisers, so God help me when I become a parent.

I’ve been financially independent from the age of 15.

I get called an ‘It-girl’ all the time and I just don’t get it. As I understand it, an It-girl lives off her parents’ money and spends her time shopping, partying and generally being frivolous. That’s not me. I’ve been employed since I was a teenager and always had a strong work ethic. I’m not saying that modelling for a living is like working down a coal mine, but it doesn’t involve poncing around all day either.

'I've always been fascinated by crime dramas like Jonathan Creek,' said Daisy
'I've always been fascinated by crime dramas like Jonathan Creek'

Modelling is only my back-up career – I always wanted to become a forensic scientist.

I’ve always had a very analytical mind and science was my favourite subject at school. I’ve always been fascinated by crime dramas like Jonathan Creek. I loved the idea of using science and logic to fight crime. I haven’t completely ruled out the idea of doing something like that when I’m older.

Walking is one of life’s great pleasures.

When I moved to New York a few years ago, that’s when I got into walking in a big way. I never take a bus or a cab in New York. Everywhere is within walking distance and, because it’s built on a grid, it’s impossible to get lost. I love walking through foreign cities, soaking up the atmosphere and the culture. But I’d love to try something ambitious like the classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. That would be five days well spent.

I’ve got a mean punch but I’ve not yet had to use it.

I’ve got a long fuse. I’m more likely to get upset than angry. One key to a contented life is to accept the things you don’t like about yourself and learn to love those traits. Hopefully, my flaws aren’t obvious to other people. You would need to go out with me for a while to notice them. But I’m not a high-maintenance girlfriend. I don’t have any really bad habits.

Happiness is not the destination; it’s the journey.

From an early age I realised possessions wouldn’t make me happy. What makes me happy is being creative and being surrounded by creative people. I’m always waiting for the next great idea to be excited about. I look to someone like Vivienne Westwood for inspiration. She’s always creative, always original. That takes courage.

I’ve planned my rebellious phase for when I hit 65.

There’s something appealing about the idea of growing old disgracefully. I can imagine myself wearing lots of bright colours and wide-brimmed hats, surrounded by dogs and children. The front door would always be open, so anyone who fancied it could drop round and be fed home-made gingerbread.

'The only problem living around there (Primrose Hill) is all the paparazzi - who are usually after pictures of me and my boyfriend (Matt Smith) together'
'The only problem living around there (Primrose Hill) is all the paparazzi - who are usually after pictures of me and my boyfriend (Matt Smith) together'

Technology is a two-sided coin.

On the one hand I couldn’t be without my smartphone. I’m away so much, so I’m constantly taking photos and sending them to my boyfriend. If I had to live without my phone for a month I’d be completely lost. I love being connected. We can’t go back and live like we used to, where every house had one phone and that was it. On the other hand it means complete strangers photograph me everywhere I go and all the time. I feel it’s best to be gracious in those situations. It’s not easy to be anonymous – it takes work. I’m more wised up about it now. If I wear a hooded jacket, I tend not to be recognised.

Alan Bennett, David Miliband and I share a baker’s.

I live in Primrose Hill and people are used to seeing famous faces there. One morning I spotted those two in the shop. The only problem living around there is all the paparazzi – who are usually after pictures of me and my boyfriend together. That kind of attention is getting more and more intense. My response is to tell them to take their picture and let me get on with my day. Even then they can get quite aggressive.

I am Florence Nightingale.

I’ve always been the Mother Earth type. Looking after entire countries might be beyond me, but I’ve always got time to take care of friends and family. I’d happily comfort someone if they were distressed. Caring for people always came easily to me. I was always attentive to people’s needs. I was never jealous of the attention my younger siblings were getting. I didn’t need much attention myself.

Googling yourself is a terrible idea.

I used to do it all the time, but a year ago I made a rule that I would never again put my name in a search engine. Some people I know are obsessive about doing it. They read negative comments and it eats away at them.

Suspenders, high heels...Daisy Lowe sure knows how to sell a mobile phone using her seven deadly sins

Suspenders, high heels...Daisy Lowe sure knows how to sell a mobile phone using her seven deadly sins

She may have recently revealed that diets don't work for her, but it seems that whatever Daisy Lowe is eating certainly agrees with her.

The model shows off her sinful side in a new advertising campaign for the the new Sony Ericsson phone.

Celebrity photographer Ben Rayne used the mobile phone Xperia Ray, to take the photos of Lowe as she posed in a variety of provocative outfits.

Using the theme of the seven deadly sins: gluttony, lust, sloth, envy, pride, greed and wrath - the 22-year-old struck a different pose to demonstrate each of them.

Wearing a pair of black lacy knickers and a satin basque, the fashion model snarls at the camera with the slim smartphone tucked comfortably in her black suspenders.

Opting to wear the same pair of knickers, but changing her top for a crisp white shirt in the next photo, Lowe appears to be making the most of her new phone as she holds it to her ear.

Still talking into the phone, the next image sees the dark-haired star representing what could be gluttony or greed as she is surrounded by numerous pair of high heels and holds a black glittery pair in her hand as she admires it.

However the next sin saw Lowe ditch the stockings and do sexy in a rather different way.

Wearing a blue silk dress that is complete with unusual, thick buckled straps, she is seen pulling what appears to be a piece of red lace material down a flight of stairs, whilst the phone is still firmly in her hand.

But it's not just buckles and suspenders that will get tech fans taking a second look at this campaign, as Lowe also shows off her trim figure in a tight red PVC dress as she applies bright red lipstick using the handset as a mirror.

Talking of red, the star also wears a less raunchy red number as she lays on a sofa looking sombre holding the phone above her head.

But the fashion favourite had time for one last sin - and it sure was a feisty one.

Looking rather envious, the model wears a black high-waisted skirt and sheer top as she tears apart a white T-shirt while again holding the new Sony phone close to her.

Wearing her usual smoky-eyed look with her hair up in a bun, Lowe certainly knows how to persuade people to buy a phone but Sony haven't stopped there.

The brand have decided to broaden it's content-led marketing strategy by supporting the launch of their new phone by looking at Lowe through the lens which will involve a behind-the-scenes look at her life.

The campaign - which launched last month - involves a three-part film and the brand's Facebook page has hosted a Q&A with Lowe and photographer Rayner.

In the short film, Lowe takes the cameras on a walk around her hometown in North London, giving fans an unseen insight into her life.

The girlfriend of Doctor Who star, Matt Smith, talks about life in front of the camera, living in the capital and how she chooses to spend her free time.

Lowe, who recently said: 'Diets don't work for me. If I'm told I can't have something, I just crave it more,' is also seen cooking in her kitchen and partying with friends on a night out.

Daisy Lowe goes topless in a racy shoot for Esquire and reveals her admiration for Lara Stone's 'massive' assets

Fresh as a Daisy: Model Lowe goes topless in a racy shoot for Esquire and reveals her admiration for Lara Stone's 'massive' assets

She's no stranger to parading around in the nude on behalf of her job, so Daisy Lowe took to her latest shoot with ease.

The model, 22, goes topless in a new photoshoot which appears in the latest issue of men's magazine Esquire.

As well as her racy shoot, Daisy also discusses the fashion industry and her own body while complimenting David Walliams' wife, Lara Stone.

In the least suggestive picture from the shoot Daisy 'wears' a red top that has the front panel completely cut out - underneath that she is wearing nothing, but cups her breasts with her hands.

And it's not just the photos that are overtly sexual.

In her interview Daisy, who is dating Doctor Who actor Matt Smith, doesn't hold back as she discusses her body and the bodies of other models, namely Lara Stone.

Talking about the wife of comedian David Walliams and the body shape of women within fashion, she says: 'There’s definitely been some sort of a shift, because I think women want to buy clothes that suit their bodies and the average women is not a stick.

'Lara Stone is one, I guess. She has massive tits. They’re amazing. So perky. Wow. David Walliams is a lucky man.'

Miss Lowe also admits to having a penchant for sports bras, and obviously aware that the interview will be published in a men's magazine she makes reference to the effect the bras have on her nipples.

She says: 'I love sports bras. They usually make my nipples very erect for some reason. My boobs are on the bigger side, so with normal bras all I want to do is take them off, but sports bras are so comfy.'

And the daughter of fashion designer Pearl Lowe also reveals that she is proud of her curvy figure, in comparison to other ultra thin models.

Daisy says: 'Being compared to all these tiny 15-year-old Russians, I look like an elephant.

'At shows they’re like, ‘Ugh’. But now I think, ‘Do you know what? I look after myself. I have boobs and I have hips and I have an arse and I have thighs. Sorry.'

The model recently showed her down-to-earth side with an appearance in a promo video for Sony Ericsson.

In the Xperian Unseen film, a camera follows her around to expose some aspects of her daily life.

She is seen shopping with her stylist, organising a dinner party with friends and taking her pet dog for a walk.

Abbey Crouch leaves little to the imagination as she arrives at GQ Awards

What on earth is Abbey Crouch not wearing? WAG leaves little to the imagination as she arrives at GQ Awards in barely-there dress

By Georgina Littlejohn

When you're battling with scores of other sexy female celebrities for the red carpet cameras, it's a good idea to make sure you're wearing something that will definitely stand out.

Which Abbey Crouch clearly had in mind as she got dressed for the GQ Awards last night - even if it looked like she hadn't got dressed at all.

The model, 25, arrived at the bash in London in an outfit that left very little to the imagination.

What's happened to your dress, Abbey? Mrs Crouch leave little to the imagination in a lacy number as she arrives at the GQ Men of the Year Awards

The black lacy number by Emanuel Ungaro barely covered her, revealing her bra and knickers underneath the flimsy lacy mesh and tassels.

She sent the flashbulbs into a frenzy as she walked down the red carpet at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden in towering black heels.

The desired effect: If Abbey wanted all eyes on her last night, then that's certainly what she got

And while the attention-grabbing dress may not have been suitable for the cool windy evening, it had the desired effect on the crowds who were waiting to glimpse a few celebs but couldn't keep their eyes off the Liverpudlian model.

It also showed off her sensational figure, which she has managed to regain just six months after giving birth to her first child, daughter Sophia.

She was without footballer husband Peter Crouch, and arrived alone at the event, which honours and recognises the most influential and debonair men of the year.

Speaking to the MailOnline about being a new mother Abbey said: 'It's amazing, I love every minute of it, being a mother is the best job in the world.'

And Abbey certainly made the most of the evening off parenting duties as she supped of the champagne and Tanquera gin cocktails.

And while all eyes were on Mrs Crouch, she also had to do battle with the other girls who arrived with their men on their arms and looked equally as sensational.

Daisy Lowe also opted for lace but her dress was less revealing that Abbey's, even though it clung to her curvaceous figure in all the right places.

She's pushing something up - but they don't appear to be daisies.

Model Daisy Lowe's eagerly anticipated Playboy cover has finally been revealed.

And it appears to be a humorous teaser for the no doubt raunchier spread to be seen inside the magazine.

Daisy, 22, graces the glossy soft-porn magazine in PVC flower-studded lingerie, with a heavy cluster of daisy flowers covering her modesty - including one hanging provocatively from her mouth.

The fashion model, who is the daughter of English singer-songwriter turned fashion designer Pearl Lowe and rocker Gavin Rossdale, appears on the cover of the magazine and features inside in an eight-page spread.

Famed for her curvy figure she can be seen inside Hugh Hefner's iconic magazine sitting poolside in the sun, smoking cigarettes and skinny dipping.

Daisy, whose mother Pearl, 41, had a one-night stand with Rossdale, travelled to the Playboy Mansion in Los Angeles to shoot the spread.
In addition to posing for Playboy’s September issue, the brunette bombshell discussed her rock and roll roots, her father and her future.
On discovering at age 15 the bombshell news that her father was Rossdale, and not her mother's husband Danny Goffey, the drummer from Supergrass she said: 'My whole life I thought my father was someone different. But Gavin and Gwen (Stefani) are really good people, and I value so much the time we get together.'

'I’ve grown up with rock and roll, but that’s not who I am. People think rock chick is code for ‘parties hard’ – but I don’t. In reality I’m a homebody.

And on her mother’s well documented drug addiction in the 1990s she said: 'When it comes to drugs I just think, cool, thanks for learning that lesson for me, Mum, because I don’t want to have to learn it myself.'
It's not the first time Daisy's posed nude - she has stripped off before for photographer Terry Richardson.
In 2009, she bared all for i-D Magazine and the previous year she stripped off for Paradis Magazine.
More recently, she famously walked the catwalk for racy lingerie brand Agent Provocateur in a rhinestone thong and nipple tassels.
She has said of posing nude for the 2010 Pirelli calendar: 'It was quite freeing, being able to be naked for a week.'

She recently admitted that it took her a while to get used to her curves and accept that she wasn't as skinny as her fellow models.

But now, Daisy Lowe's womanly figure is set to be celebrated in one of the world's most famous publications.

The young star is believed to be stripping off and baring all for Playboy magazine.

According to reports, Lowe, 22, the daughter of designer Pearl and rocker Gavin Rossdale, will strip off for the September issue of the publication.

According to Spinner.com, Daisy will follow in the footsteps of rock icon Mick Jagger‘s daughter, Elizabeth Jagger, who was recently featured in a nude shoot for the mag.

Daisy, who is dating Doctor Who star Matt Smith, will fly to California and do the shoot at founder Hugh Hefner's famous Playboy mansion.

This will not be the first time that Daisy has stripped off for her job.

In 2009, she bared all for i-D Magazine and the previous December she stripped off for Paradis Magazine.

She also walked the catwalk for Agent Provocateur in nothing more than knickers and nipple tassels.

And she appeared in last year's Pirelli calendar and said she really enjoyed getting her clothes off.

She said: 'It was quite freeing, being able to be naked for a week.'

Daisy is clearly more than comfortable in nothing but her birthday suit for the camera.

However, she has kept her modelling tasteful since meeting Smith, 28.

And while her liberal mother Pearl may not disapprove, as long as it's done tastefully, it is still uncertain what her father will make of it.

Matt Smith and Daisy Lowe a fashionable pair as they cuddle up on the front row at Paris Couture Week

Doctor Ooh La La! Matt Smith and Daisy Lowe a fashionable pair as they cuddle up on the front row at Paris Couture Week

They're rarely seen apart - and it seems that Doctor Who star Matt Smith is so enamoured with his model girlfriend Daisy Lowe that he's turned into a fashionista.

Matt, complete with directional haircut, was cuddling up to his catwalk star darling in the front row of the Jean Paul Gaultier show last night at Paris Couture Week.

The couple looked like they were posing for a painfully cool trend magazine, with Matt sporting what looked like a bob.

The hot pair have just returned from a holiday in Los Angeles, where they could barely keep their hands off each other, whether on beach or boardwalk.

She was in the U.S. to support the 28-year-old as he scouted out work options over there, where he's gaining a cult following as Doctor Who increases in popularity in the U.S.

Matt said last month: 'I have a lot of ambitions. I would like one day to direct and I just want to keep doing quality work. LA is kinda groovy – I really like it out there.'

Matt and Daisy began dating in February last year but split after just a few weeks.

However, they soon rekindled the romance though and have been going strong ever since.

It's not hard to see what Matt sees in Daisy if her appearance yesterday was anything to go by.

Last night, Daisy looked stunning in a pale nude pink, figure-hugging ankle length Jean Paul Gaultier gown with his trademark conical bra top that showed off every inch of her curves - and proved why she's such a successful lingerie model for Agent Provacateur.

She'd teamed the dress with silver Louboutins covered in spikes for the Gaultier's Fall/ Winter 2011 collection show during Paris Couture Fashion Week, which finished yesterday.

Earlier in the day, Daisy was out in a red, floorlength drape dress with a slash all the way up to her thigh at the Elie Saab Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2011/2012 show as part of Paris Fashion Week at Palais de Chaillot.

Matt meanwhile looked more rock star than Timelord as he followed Daisy around Couture Week, wearing a low-necked Beastie Boys T-shirt with black drainpipe trousers and blazer, accessorised with shades, a necklace and snazzy two tone grey and black brogues with a patent toecap.

Daisy Lowe opted for a short and sweet look as she stepped out at a London party this week.

The 22-year-old arrived at the trendy Hospital Club in a little black ensemble that put her legs on show.

The star, who left her boyfriend Matt Smith behind for the outing, also gave guests a little peek of her midriff.

She was celebrating the launch of the Braun Silk-épil 7 Dual Epilator which combines the best of epilation and shaving.

Proving herself to be a suitably smooth operator, she later took part in a catwalk show and even got behind the decks for a DJ set.

Lowe had only just returned from a trip to Los Angeles with her Dr Who star beau.

She was in the U.S. to support the 28-year-old, who appears eager to work across the pond.
